for me, it's nearly 2 years and i'm a girl. I tend to keep things bottled up. I never cry, it's for wimps but i heard crying is actually good for you. I've been depressed for 6 years now but haven't cried in 2 years. is that normal? How bout you guys?

Who knows?

Cry if you need to cry. Keeping it all in is worse than letting it out.

About 5 years. Not because I am bottling things up or because I am emotionally uptight but because I now spend my life looking at the happy things in life. I stay in the positive and so don't have a need to cry.

Sure if something happens and someone dies I will cry like a baby but then I'll get over it and celebrate their life not their death.

I used to do that but changed after I met with a chap who changed the way I looked at life. He cured my depression ( and doesnt even know it ) by getting me to look at the cause and admit that depression is a chosen state not a physical one. The guys name was Martyn Ward, Not sure where he is now and don't know if it would work for you but crying is not the problem or the answer.

I am the same as you and always walk around with a very sinking feeling in my stomach. I always feel very lonely and isolated. I think it has ben at least a good couple of months now. But then I have a fake cry and a really meaningful cry which rarely happens unless I have lost somebody, the fake is a sad film where there are no real emotions. I know I suffer with depression and have been told I am very erractic with my emotions and the way I react to peoples comments, although noone really helps.

Hmmmm... how old are you?
I cry every week... maybe it's just tears in the eyes, not real crying. I don't often sob - maybe twice a year but then I also don't keep track of my tears (I feel a song coming on...!)

Personally, I think if you laugh and cry and span the emotions you are connected to life, because life is full of ups and downs. The expression 'crying is for wimps' is ridiculous because crying is not just about feeling sorry for yourself or being vulnerable (see above). It sounds to me like you feel nothing and that is both a shame and something you need to work on. I wish you luck.

The longest i go without crying is probably a month, and yes i find it therapeutic. However i have never seen my partner cry he claims he hasn't cried since he was a child and that was over 25 years ago, he says he doesn't feel the need to. So i guess everybody is different.

I hope you get over your depression soon.. take care

I cry about once a week, sometimes more as my mom died very suddenly at age 64 in january 2006 and i still think about it. Crying is not for wimps, it very good for you to cry, just not over every little thing. I saw your other questions and you need serious help...please do not kill yourself, you are a wonderful human being if you just get some much needed help. It would be very easy to kill myself and hopefully join my mom but i am not going to do that, as i have people that need me here and it would be selfish of me to do that. You have a lot of people that love you, please do not let them grieve over you when it is not your time

I CRY. It isn't good to keep things bottled up, because at some point you will BURST!!! Crying seems to suck, but after all the tears I feel exhausted and can actually calm down and rest. Have you gotten any help with your depression????? If not, you need to see a doctor and get on meds. If you don't have anyone at home to help, go to your school counselor. You have to reach out to someone. Please get some help.

girls should cry at least every week or else it bottles up and a seemingly innocent comment from a bloke triggers off a wild reaction... women are sensitive and need to let out their feelings blokes are just not as caring... so the last time would have been a few months ago during an argument with my fiancee

Im a real woos and very soppy so prob only couple of days ago. Only takes an emotional TV programme. But if you wanted to release emotions without crying you prob have another preferred outlet i.e listening to music really loud, running, or something.
