Oh for the love of pete! according to wikipedia:

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (or ITIN) is a United States tax processing number issued by the Internal Revenue Service. It is a nine-digit number that begins with the number 9 and has a 7 or 8 in the fourth digit, example 9xx-7x-xxxx or 9xx-8x-xxxx. The IRS issues ITINs to individuals who are required to have a taxpayer identification number but who do not have, and are not eligible to obtain, a Social Security Number.

ITINs are issued regardless of immigration status because both resident and nonresident aliens may have Federal tax return and payment responsibilities under the Internal Revenue Code. Individuals must have a filing requirement and file a valid federal income tax return to receive an ITIN, unless they meet an exception.

And the IRS:

How do I know if I need an ITIN?

Non-resident alien filing a U.S. tax return and not eligible for an SSN
U.S. resident alien (based on days present in the United States) filing a U.S. tax return and not eligible for an SSN
Dependent or spouse of a U.S. citizen/resident alien
Dependent or spouse of a non-resident alien visa holder

And from the W-7 form itself:

If you submit an original valid passport (or a notarized or
certified copy of a valid passport), you do not need to submit
any other documents from the list below. Otherwise, you must
submit at least two or more of the documents listed below. The
documents must be current and verify your identity (that is, contain
your name). At least one document must contain your photograph
and one must support your claim of foreign status. Do not attach
expired documents.
a. National identification card (must show photo, name, current
address, date of birth, and expiration date).
b. U.S. driver’s license.
c. Civil birth certificate.
d. Foreign driver’s license.
e. U.S. state identification card.
f. Foreign voter’s registration card
g. U.S. military identification card
h. Foreign military identification card.
l. School records (dependents and/or students only).
j. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) photo
identification.
k. Medical records (dependents only).

If illegals aren't allowed to get free welfare, then was was Prop. 187 in California all about??

California Proposition 187 was a 1994 ballot initiative designed to deny illegal immigrants social services, health care, and public education. No one may receive public benefits until they have proven their legal right to reside in the country. It passed with 58.8% of the vote[1], but was overturned by a federal court.

The amount the illegals pay in taxes doesnt come close to paying for the medical costs they incur while being here.Thats why so many hospitals..,especially in california has shut their doors..,they taxes they pay also doenst come close to paying for all the illegal gang members and perverts that are now in our jails and prisons getting free room and board.Try another argument because that one doesnt hold water. And the people that want to argue that dont want to realize the fraud you talk about. They continually drain our pockets..,good point.

I have personally registered dozens of illegal immigrants for Tax Identification numbers. I have seen many of them use these numbers legally to file their tax returns and pay their income taxes. They need the TIN in order to claim their legal deductions. So get your facts straight.

As happens, I think that was Pancha's imposter.

However, she has said it too.

True some use fake docs or unwillingness of liberals to 'ask' to get benefits. At least I assume so because Colorado looked at how many there get welfare, and it wasn't zero. Part of the problem has always been, how secure is the document used to get the benefits? Also true, some pay taxes (which are counted and still leave a huge net loss).

They use phoney SS cards and the taxes are taken right out of there paychecks. Its way to early in the day for the most idiotic statement we still have to hear from skerry and shirazz several more times to have all nominations.

I used to work for social services. Illegals are not able to ge welfare because proof of citizenship is required. However if they have a child or children born here, they are able to get benefits for the children. Get a life all of you.

Why don't you get your facts straight? They can't get welfare because the first thing they ask for are legal ID. They can pay taxes because IRS give them a SS that can only be use to pay taxes. I know what I am talking about. You learned something today, if you are interested in learning.
NO. YOU ARE WRONG. They can get a SS# legally, just to do income tax. CHECK IT OUT WIT THE IRS.

Why would you ask a question and then ridicule an answer? IF YOU DON'T WANT EVERYBODY TO ANSWER THEN DON'T ASK A QUESTION. Everybody does not have to agree with you! And they can pay taxes by getting a TIN, something anyone can get .. but then you wouldn't even know what that is with your limited education.

You show your stupidity every time you open your mouth.. they are Taxpayer Identification Numbers.. not temporary you idiot, and anyone can get one.. call the IRS before you open your mouth..

go to the www.irs.gov and look it up genius. form w-7 is intended for any working person in the us legal or not to apply for an itin number to pay taxes on any income they make. the catch is they dont get any of it back like we do.

NO WHERE ON THE FORM W-7 INSTRUCTIONS DOES IT STATE THAT YOU MUST SHOW PROOF OF VISA OR LEAGAL PRESENCE. THE IRS DOESNT CARE IF YOU ARE LEGAL OR NOT, THEY WANT THEIR MONEY.
