40 'quarters' of coverage are required. That is, you had to have paid into the system for 40 quarters (or 10 years) to qualify. Theoretically, you can do this overseas (or on a drilling rig) I guess.

No. Because you have not paid into the Social security system over here you will not be entitled to receive it. But if you worked from whatever country you're from, you're entitled to that Social security.

It seems our government thinks that the social security fund is a deep pocket for their own personal agendas. They will give money to anyone that agrees with them.
Social Security ought to be only for those who paid into the system, as it was orginally intended, sadly that is no longer the case. It seems illegal immigrants to this country are now elligible in some cases.

Generally, no.
Have you ever paid U.S. taxes? If you worked and paid social security tax for at least 40 quarters (10 years), then you will receive benefits regardless of whether you performed the work in the U.S. or not. If you never paid U.S. income taxes, then you will not be eligible for social security.

No, and if you weren't born here AND handicapped, you don't deserve it. Social Security is for people who worked and contributed to it to use. It should not be used for people who (by choice) will not work in the US. It also should not be used as a piggy bank for ****** politicians with agendas of their own.
Whether you can or not- if you are a citizen, probably.

You can received SS off of your spouse's income even if you have never worked a day in your life. It won't be as much as your spouse but you can still get a monthly check.

No. You must pay in to take out. That's why part of every paycheck goes to social security.
