Not what is written in text, but "your" definition?

And "one who predicts" is still written in text. Just not of a holy scripture. But written in the dictionary.

Prophet is a person with an upright morality, who is on the Right Path and invites others to it. He posesses an excellent knowledge in Revealed Knowledge.

Some of the prophets are referred as the friend of God and some as the Seal of the Prophets. Above all, they are human beings and not divine creations. They should never be worshipped, because none has the right to be worshipped except the God!

P.S. God here refers to the Creator of the Universe, not Jesus, not Holy Ghost but to Allah - in arabic means the God.

There are predictions based on logic and analysis..... like weather forcasting...this is not prophesy....

there are predictions based on no or very little informaiton where the outcome is not sure or completely unknown. true prophesy falls in this category and can predict way into the future, where there would be no way to guess what woudl happen....true prophets are 100% accurate... they speak by inspiration, not by logic or vain imaginations, or by impressions they have gotten from you or others....they may generalized some, but always give specific information as well.

for example, if a "prophet" said ....i hear god saying tonight will be of great help to many.....or God loves you and will help you with your life... or God wants this country to turn away from sin and seek his face....then that person just made that up..he is a fake...

if the prophet says tonight you will hear from a potential employer who will offer you a job and you will move to a different state.... then that is more credible...or you need to go to the doctor because you have an undiagnosed medical problem....or you will meet someone next year and get married to them within 3 months....if he tells you things no one knows but you and god, or just God, then he is real...

Revelations 19:10 says that the "testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy" So in a way, anyone that has a testimony of the divinity of Jesus Christ and His mission is a prophet. However, special men are called of God to be Prophets. These men speak directly to God and then relay that message to the rest of the people. The rest of us speak with God through the Holy Spirit.

there are prophets and there are propheteers, you can tell, can you? A prophet looks at the river and see the fishes and know that it can feed the village. A propheteer sees the village and knows he will feed today. A prophet smells the wet winds and know that the drought is at an end, and tells the village that planting time is nigh. A propheteer calls his caddy and says "no golf today, on account of rain." A prophet teaches the village to live righteously, a propheteer sells guarantees of life after death. A prophet sheds no one's blood but his own...

Prophets are men, chosen by God at various stages and under varying circumstances of history, to lead men from darkness to light. The Qur’an repeatedly states the fact that prophets with the same message were sent to each and every community. The process of revelation continued unabated, sometimes in succession, at other times in broken sequences until the period in history, when the termination of Divine revelation and messengership, with the Qur’an and Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) became a significant milestone in the history of mankind. It is true that the lives and mission of many a prophet has been made obscure and distorted by legends that grew around them or by people with vested interests, who used the names of these prophets to exploit men and mislead them from the right faith. No prophet of God has claimed himself to be divine. They were all mortals who lived and passed away from this earth after completing their mission of conveying the basic message to mankind, which was a call for the recognition and affirmation of God’s existence, uniqueness and Lordship over all creation. It is an integral part of Islamic faith to believe in all the prophets of God

Someone who is able to tap into the wisdom of the universe, and let go of the limitations of time and culture, to be able to speak truths and share that wisdom with others.

But they only truly count as Prophets (capitol P) if that's their day job.

If the prophet thinks he is a messenger of a god, then the prophet is simply deluded or possibly mentally ill. If others call someone a prophet, they are just gullible and ignorant.
