I just read an article on this and the experts said that re-freezing really doesn't matter unless it has been defrosted and refrozen more than once. When using these items cook to the right internal temperatures and that will kill ny bacteria etc.
I had always cooked whatever defrosted into meals and then froze them as meals for later use.
I believe the article was in the Parade magazine in Sunday's paper

If the food was completely thawed out no matter what meat,,etc,, then throw it out. You can not refreeze food. You'd get sick if you tried to eat it. If the food was frozen for awhile and just the door open over night then chances are the stuff in the middle and in the bottom didn't completely thaw.
Now if it's the bottom part of the ice box, the milk,, mayo, and stuff I'd toss them too. Otherwise they might taste funny and chances are you'd get sick if you drank/ ate that stuff.

Just being open overnight will not make much difference if everything was well frozen. You should not have a problem I would just refreeze and use these particular items as soon as possible though.

If everything has defrosted completely, then you should toss everything out. Bacteria doubles like every 30secs at room temperature....work it out. The potential of getting sick VS. saving the money isn't worth it.

I don't know about everything that you had in your freezer but I do know that you cannot refreeze meats of any kind.
