If Lipton lemon tea in a plastic bottle is dated 5/22/06 do you think it will make me ill if I drink it today?

It should still be fine. Most of those dates are "sell by" dates, not "consume by" dates. plus most companies mark the date to be on the safe side. Most of that stuff (bottled drinks, soda, etc) are good for a months after the date. Even milk can be good up to 5 days after the expiration date, as long as you care for it properly. A nurse in my family told me recently that over the counter meds can be good for as long as 2 years after their "expiration" date. If it smells or tastes funky tho, just toss it.

Have you ever try a ready made food, the one in tight packaging? (eg spaghetti sauce) I just cooked one with expiring date 2 years ago. Its been 2 months and i still alive and healthy.

If it has not yet been opened, Id say it would be fine to drink it.

If it has not been open it should be ok; taste a little to be sure.
