I am super tired at work because I work full time and I go to school full time. Usually, late in the afternoon I start to get really sleepy. Coffee doesn't really do the trick. Help!!!

Hmm, tough one b/c I don't know what type of work you do. Here is what suggest that is still healthy: 1) Stand up if you are able. If you are already standing up, move around as much as you can. 2) Talk to people when given a chance to help engage your brain 3) Drink water and plenty of it. 4) Your body wants sleep in the afternoon... if you can do a 15 minute nap, that may or may not help. 5) Eat healthy foods when you eat. No simple carbs, no fast food, etc. Try real fruits and veggies. 6) If you are allowed, munch on something in the afternoon to give yoursef some pep (apples are great for this)... Don't forget to sleep on the weekends!
Best of luck...

The reason you are falling asleep is because you aren't getting enough oxygenated blood to your brain so, your body tries to make your body horizontal so that it is not fighing gravity. You should take a 15 minute power nap, after getting up from it drink a few sips of cold water, and walk around. This will get the blood back flowing.

Your body may be low on fuel (temporary low blood sugar). About 30 minutes before you usually get sleepy have a protein based snack - with some sugar in it - like a hard boiled egg and an oreo or 2. The sugar will wake you up, and the protein will make the sugar take longer to process - giving you some sustained energy.

If you continue to have problems like on the weekend, or days off, check out www.hufa.org about low blood sugar problems.

they do have these pills that are sold over the counter called no doz pills. My co-worker used to take them, they kept her awake, but be careful as with any kind of pill, taking too much or on a daily basis could do harm to yourbody. If I am extemely tired, I usually get up from work and go outside stretch my legs and that usually wakes me up. Kudos to you on working and schooling at the same time, I totally understand how tired you are. Good luck

You are very busy - sounds like you have a great future ahead of you! To answer your question, what works for me is to get up and walk around for a couple of minutes and get a glass of cold water. If you are able to step outside and get some fresh air, that is helpful, too - not always possible I know.

Do some stretch exercises and drink some orange juice. If you are able to get up and move around for about 5 min. Or just stand up and move your legs around and your arms and neck. Take some deep breathing exercises, too. Move your shoulders up and down.

Wash your face more often with cold water. Eat some fruites. Drink more coffee still.

Keep some candy or chocolate in your desk drawer. When you start to feel sleepy, pop some in your mouth. M&M's work great.

Drink a monster energy drink. It has caffeine just like coffee but I always thought they work better.
