We keep hearing the 'hard working' rhetoric, but if that was really true, why's Mexico so low down instead of flying high etc?

Probably for the same reason that although the U.S is known as the land of milk and honey we still have homeless people and people living way below the poverty level. Its all about the government and the upper class. In mexico the upper class and government just wishes to become richer and really doesn't care whom they have to hurt to do that. And seems at least in that respect the U.S government and upperclass also feel like that. You don't see any wealthy people share half their wealth with the poor nor march out in the streets saying that they are being taxed too much or that illegals are hurting them. The reason for that is that it doesn't affect them, they have their security and money and the rest be damned.such is life

My husband is from Mexico, so I can answer this for you first hand. Imagine working as hard as they do and only bringing home about 100 dollars a week to work from sun up to sun down 6-7 days a week. A really good salary there is 500 a month. I have been to the little pueblas and inner cities of Mexico and seen first hand just how hard they work. The reason for no economic gain there is because their government is corrupt. The following is a post about police corruption, just one of the many ways that government does not work in their favor as it does here in the U.S.

"Mexico's cops are routinely involved in extortion, kidnapping, robbery and counterfeiting gangs. For a $125 payoff to their commanding officers, a cop in Mexico City can get assigned to a busy intersection in the capital, netting him a cache of extortion money at the end of a day's work. The cops charge six bucks to overlook a parking violation, $12.50 for running a stop sign and $30 to back off from calling a tow truck. Mexico can boast the world's most corrupt police forces; so corrupt are they, in fact, that the Zedillo government has replaced a huge chunk of Mexico City's forces with soldiers. Real cops popped a Norwegian tourist in October 1998 and kidnapped and raped three girls in Tiahuac district in July 1998, and 19 cops were busted after whacking three youths in October 1997."

the preceeding is from www.comebackalive.com if any of you would like to educate yourself more as to why the citizens of mexico are running for the border. If you had to live in fear like that everyday and make squat for the work you do, do you think you would run for the border too?

Well, bonehead, I'm sorry, "gokart", why isn't your Amerika a 'shining city on a hill'?

Why does the US have the highest percentage of her population living in poverty of any industrialized western nation?

Why does the US have the highest rates of illegal drug use in the world?

Why does the US have a larger percentage of its population in prison than any other western nation?

Why is the US the most blatently racist nation on Earth?

Why does the US have some of the highest rates of murder and violence in the world?

Indeed, if the US is such a "shining city" why are hundreds of thousands of Mexicans moving back to Mexico every year?

Another solution to one of our country's problems...
Bring all our troops home from Iraq to guard the border. When they catch an illegal immigrant crossing the border, hand him a canteen, rifle, and some ammo and ship him to Iraq .

Tell him if he wants to come to America then he must serve a tour in the military.

Give him a soldier's pay while he's there and tax him on it.

After his tour, he will be allowed to become a citizen since he defended this country. He will also be registered to be taxed and be a legal patriot.

This option will probably deter illegal immigration and provide a solution for the troops in Iraq and the aliens trying to make a better life for themselves.
If they refuse to serve, ship them to Iraq anyway without the canteen, rifle, or ammo.
Problem solved

Because the Mexican government is made up of corrupt conservatives and has been for the last 90-odd years. Because of this stranglehold on the country, it has failed to develop a middle class like most technologically advanced democracies in the world.

It's at a point to where I'm reporting more questions than I get a chance to answer. It's an ugly question. If you were even a tad sincere, you wouldn't have had to use quotation marks around "hard workers".
