a friend told me that - in his opinion - americans dont know much about germany... this would be ok ... i dont know - for example -not much about countries in other mainlands, but some people asked him, if germany still has a dictator...and some more stupid things...maybe i've written this a bit confusing, but i think, you should be able to understand what i mean...

those people were at a college (exchange of students)... and they said, the only theme that deals with germany was the years (about?) hitler.

Don't feel bad. Most Americans are basically pig-ignorant about their own country, too.
For myself, I have studied German history and literature, I know its language pretty well, I studied in a German university for a time, and I have visited various parts of the country on a few occasions. Not all of us are clueless about other countries -- just the vast majority of us.

Having lived in Germany for roughly 8 years, (Moved there from Bosnia when I was roughly 3 years old.), and it being my second language, I can say that I know a pretty hefty amount, PM me if you need anything, or AIM messenger is fine, Hacks115. That goes for anyone.

well some think in the uk we all either talk like the queen or a cockney, and we all eat eel pie. i've never seen an eel pie, let alone eaten one. i don't talk queenish or cockney. neither do i call everyone 'love'. to be fair to the germans though, they are very efficient. and mad as a bag of cats too.
