"Day Time Running Lights"

1. You will have to access your fuse box by removing the protective cover from the bottom of your dashboard. It is secured by a couple of Phillips screws and a plastic clip (removing it should be fairly obvious.)
2. Once the cover is removed, you will have to 'unclip' your fuse block. There is a white locking clip that you must pulled forward (toward yourself) to release the fuse block from it's bracket. There is a clip on both the right and left side of the fuse block... they literally swing out of the way once released.
3. Push the fuse block up and then slide it towards you to remove it from it's bracket.
4. Locate relay #94 or #173 in location #15... the relay number will vary depending on the year of your car. Use the small screwdriver to pry the relay out.
5. You done! Just reverse the steps to put the fuse block back into the dashboard.

"HOW TO DISABLE DRLs"
http://www.lightsout.org/disable.html
Push in on the headlight switch and turn clockise. Carefully pull out the switch and disconnect the wiring harness. Cut a small piece of electrical tape and place it over the pin with the TFL marking just below it. Reattach the switch to the wiring harness and reinstall the switch in the dash.
This is completely reversable and does not require the removal of the #175 relay or any wiring modifications.
HOW TO DISABLE DRLs
http://www.lightsout.org/disable.html
"First off, as of July, 2005, there are no federal laws in the US that mandate DRLs on passenger vehicles. If your dealer refuses to disconnect your DRLs, saying 'they're a mandatory safety item,' then your dealer is lying."

Going to your fuse box and unplugging the fuse marked for that would be the easiest way. Call a VW dealer.

The system is integrated. If you live in Canada, you will be in violation, eh. Vehicles in Canada since 1991 are required to have DRL's. Here in the US, it is a safety system good to have, eh.

Find out where the module itself is under the hood and just unplug it.
You should be able to find it in an owners manual or call the dealership.

Put in the positive side to the lights, that is if you want it switchable. If you want to disable them just cut the wires.
