The ACLU defends all types against a government that steals and kills. Historically, the worst sinners have always been those with the power to do it! And for any of us to have liberties, the least loved among us (most hated?) must be certain of their liberties.
What has religion to do with law? You are not so naive as to believe that crap about the legislature's laws being based upon scripture? Why have a constitution or legislative debate then? Just declare the Bible as the law of the land. God forbid! The slow steady growth of liberties since the Magna Carta through the Reformation and Enlightenment has specifically been to free us from religious laws so that we may enjoy the liberties we have as Christians. And that includes persons of other or no religion so that the liberties of us all are protected.
There is nothing more idiotic than an ultra-conservative Protestant who wants to impose a theocracy upon the nation. Theocracy is the very thing that Protestantism protested! Modern laws are based upon Christian efforts to secularize society and thereby create Christian liberty.
Be free, to do right or wrong, that is your choice under God.

You are simply incorrect about the basis of US law and have chosen a self-serving falsehood to believe. The ACLU represents any individual it can afford to who has a genuine issue of civil liberty that should be litigated -- including quite a few street preachers and religious congregations when it was their liberty at stake. You have probably learned to mouth criticisms of this group without ever doing any independent research of objective sources, which is unjust and irresponsible of you. If your rights were under threat, the ACLU would probably defend you anyway, which makes them much better than you in my opinion.

First, your premise is flawed. The laws were not written based on the Bible. But, I'm not going to waste my time trying to convice you of that simple obvious fact if you choose to deny the blatant reality.
Laws have nothing to do with sin. Laws are about government enforcement of certain rules and policies. And the ACLU protects the constitutional rights for everyone, regardless of whose rights happen to be being infringed at the moment.

A.DDLEPATED C.CHRISTIANS L. L ACKING U.UNDERSTANDING of anything outside of their own tight little circle. Open your mind and let your conception of "god" out. We have. You can't keep "him" in a little box by wishing and praying, anyhow. Scriptural laws were not hand written or dictated by "the Deity", they are based on the ancient Code of Hammurabi, from Babylon ( 1780 BC) and from laws set up even earlier than that. The ancient Code of Hammurabi, however, gave women more freedom and equality than later religious laws have. Of course the Babylonians were pagans weren't they? Check it out; its very interesting and you might learn something more than what you're being fed in church. Re. "sin"; it means missing the mark. Have you ever done that?

Interestingly, Christians make up about 75% of the US population and 75% of the US prison population. No big surprise there.
Atheists make up about 10% of the US population... but they only make up 0.2% of the US prison population. Now, isn't THAT a surprise? That means that atheists are FIFTY (50) times LESS LIKELY to be incarcerated than Christians. Pretty strange, huh, for a group that has no god-given guiding moral principals?
I can think of only two possibilities that might reasonably be said to account for this disparity:
1. Atheists are of a higher ethical and moral caliber than Christians, and thus are less prone to do the same kinds of nasty things that land so many Christians in the slammer; OR,
2. Atheists are, overall, a lot smarter than Christians and thus, they are less likely to get caught in the course of their transgressions.
It's GOT to be one or the other... take your pick.

Um, let me try to speak Idiot so you can understand . . . Laws are written by people who take a pen and punch out the little hole on the piece of paper and put it in the little box (just one little hole for each question though, and don't peek at the other little papers). The American Civil Liberties Union fights for the rights of the people who punched the little holes in the paper -- and even for the people who missed the bus and were unable to get there. Night night, little one. Go back to sleep.

Please don't Lie. Statistics show a higher percentage of Christians in prison than outside of prison. Our laws are NOT based on biblical scipture. If they were, children would be stoned to death for disobeying their parents. Rapists would need to buy their rape victims. The bible is full of rules which have no place in a civilized society.
