I have friends that hand out money to their grown children all of the time. Rent, car payments, to eat out, etc.

Some kids take longer to "get it" than others and need extra help. Some have extenuating circumstances and need help longer. It's up to each parent to judge what's right for them.

Some don't want to let go of their children, they want to always feel needed. Others however have children that seem to be at a slower pace getting their act together and being ready for the real world. I have a friend who is 23 and keeps moving back in with her mother because she does not know how to keep a job and a savings account for when life happens. Some poeple just seem to take longer than others to get the real world together and some have more drive and self worth than others. Unfortunately some will never get it and always turn to their parents for a hand out becuase they know they can, Also, a parent does not want to see their child fail, not eat or have to sleep in their car or on someones couch so they will help out as best they can, it may be letting them move back in, helping with bills, or even paying for their housing all together.

Some parents could not enjoy life, seeing that their children are hard up or problematic. Whenever they have the means, parents will always support their children, even if they are already grown up.
Here in our side of the globe, children even live with their parents long enough even if they already have work and have children.
This is normal here, and maybe not in USA.

Some parents do this and if it happens once in a while it's ok but all the time it's called enabling. And what they are doing is greater damage than is already done. Because it doesn't teach them responsibility or let them grow up. All they do is stand around with their hand open thinking it's their parents job to support them. What a waste.

Because they were too wimpy as parents to force their children to learn how to become productive, contributing members of society. So now they have so-called adults on their hands who don't know how to balance a checkbook, wash laundry, or cook a meal, let alone obtain and keep a job.

Sh*t ... I wish my parents gave me money and supported me ... but no ... I'm the one who has to help my family with everything .. money, rides, life ... jobs ... pretty much keep them all in check and doing what's right ... !

I'm the oldest and feel like I've always taken care of my family ... it sucks ... I'm getting tired and worn out by my younger brothers and parents ... not sure how I turned out so well ... I guess I just learned from their mistakes when I was younger and told myself I would never let my life spin out of control like theirs ... !

I agree with you to a certain extent! BUT parenthood doesnt STOP when your child turns 18 years old! NOPE it lasts forever and ever! I know when my son is grown and he needs help with something I pray he will feel loved and safe enough to come to me because Ill do anything in my power to help him- after all he is my child!
