It is not a nationality.

It is both (and separately) a religion and an ethnicity. It is a religion because it includes beliefs about the universe, God, spiritual matters, and because people can choose to convert to or from it.

But it there is also an ethnicity, confusing also called Judaism or more accurately Semitic, because of the centuries of cultural insularity, that led to a concentration of specific genetic traits in a definable population set. And because of the shared culture and history that attached to those who follow the religion, but that exists independent of the purely religious aspects of the faith.

Being Jewish is primarily religious, and certainly not a nationality, as you can be British and Jewish or American and Jewish...your nationality stems from the country in which you were born or have assumed citizenship.
Many Israelis are Jewish, but not all are, so you can't even say that if you are from Israel you are definitely going to be Jewish.
However some people see their Jewishness as being a racial thing as well - hence the phrase "I'm Jewish by race and religion." Hope that helps.

Religion. The nationality of a person is from which nation he originates or a citizen of. The Jews in Israel will have Israeli nationality but Jews in USA are or American nationality and so forth.

Those of The Nation of Israel... not those of the political state of Israel today... are called Jews. They are those who are decended from Abraham who was chosen by God to begin The Nation of Israel. Being a Jew is to be one of The Chosen people of God... it is a race whose total membership is known only to God. Those who "convert" to The Jewish Faith are joining a "religion"... Only those who are directly decended from Abraham are The True Nation of Israel...

its not a legal nationality, but jews think of ourselves as a nation.

the nation we consider ourselves part of is Israel, but this has nothing to do with the modern state of Israel which bears the same name, its a spiritual and hereditary nation that does not require an actual country.

EDIT

no IdahoMike, converts are also part of the Nation of Israel. just as Czechs who move to Canada and gain citizenship become part of the nation of Canada. you do not have to be born a jew to be jewish.

the old testament followers who are not believers in new testament are called as religion of Judaism.

spiritual jews : Romans 2:28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither [is that] circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
2:29 But he [is] a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision [is that] of the heart, in the spirit, [and] not in the letter; whose praise [is] not of men, but of God.

There are "ethnic Jews" as well as religious Jews. Some ethnic Jews practice Judaism, some don't. Some who practice Judaism are not ethnically Jewish. It all depends.
