I'm interested in the answer from a "personality type" perspective. Are artists more likely to own cats than other people? What about famous artists---have they owned cats more often than average?

Well as a cat breeder, I must say knowing hundreds of other cat breeders......that artistic people are drawn to cats. There are so many cat lovers in literatur and art.....they are too many to name.
One of my favorite quotes comes from Heinlein who said.

"Cats and women will have their way...and men and dogs had better get used to it"

In CFA, Cat Fanciers Asscociation, there are some incredible artists and poets. Now ask them which breed is the best and you will get the most "creative" answers you've ever heard...lol.

I am an artist, and I love my babies. My cats are the most precious friends I have. I have been a commercial artist for over 30 years and haven't been without a cat except when my angel Bubba passed from fip and the vet said no cats for 6 months to make sure the virus was gone. I cried so hard had to take a week off from work...and got Captain Worf the minute I could. He saved my life. Also, the "Cat Catalog" (a book) says many famous artists love(d) their cats.

I don't know about other people, but I consider myself artistic and creative--I even have my own little creativity center in my loft--and I love my cat.
