Tricky question. I agree with the other natives that answered longsleeves, hoodies, etc. That's all based on weather. However, really it's a lot more about where you'll be going in Manhattan that will dictate what you wear. First of all, please don't walk around in running shoes and jeans. You will scream tourist. And forget the socks and sandels unless you're German, in that case, we expect it. Don't DONT walk around in matching top/bottom tracksuits. Saw that the other day coming out of a hotel in midtown. It hurt.

For walking around jeans are totally acceptable with say, Diesels if you're a guy, and anything but running shoes if your a girl. At night even if you go someplace trendy women can wear jeans and heels, men should wear jeans and either cool sneaker (like Diesels) or dress shoes. Of course age plays its part here as well. When in doubt, dress up more. But don't look like you're trying to dress up if you're going someplace trendy. That make sence?

I would describe the weather there in October as sweater weather and the temp is about 55 to 70.

As a native New Yorker, I know by that time, things are cooler; warmer clothes are advised; remember it's an island; also check the weather in the area online before you go.

hoodie!!!! Bring an umbrella, long pants, but every now and then there is a warm wave of weather, so bring nice shorts and a few tees.
