Just go up Broad Street in the City Centre to any of the Pubs and Bars up there , there are loads of them now, its the entertainment centre iof Birmingham.

This may be where he's sending you. It's been a while since I was in B'ham. Granted I'm a little older, probably. But I enjoy the bars at the Little Five Points area.
Go away from the interstate, past the college, UAB turn right and it's just up the hill. At the time, there was four or five bars in the area, and the perfect balance of individuals for me.
