I'm just wondering why so many Christians criticize Joel Osteen?
I tried several churches in Houston before I found a church (Lakewood) that accepted me (a young, never been married, single mom of 3 kids, with several tattoos) and I feel I belong there.
However, everytime I tell someone where I attend church, their eyes roll and all can say is Joel Osteen of Lakewood is a false teacher that leads many astray, so be very careful.
If you agree, how does teaching others to be non-judgemental, maintain a positive attitude, keep faith in Jesus, and count on God's blessings, leading ppl away from God?

I think that many Christians are religious and this halts their Godly decision about things. If you prayed to God and he lead you to lakewood then stay there. It is a purpose for you being there. Just stay in the Word.... Regardless of Joel or anyone.... Stay in the Word so if they say something that disagrees with the bible you will be aware of it and no like others who just sit in Church on sundays... Like it's a bad job.... Having knowledge but not the wisdom to come to the truth

You shouldn't seek inclusion and validation from a church. Exposing your children to that is a serious form of abuse. Church is where you will find the most hatred, judgment, lies, hypocrisy and bad examples. Every scumbag I have ever know was a professed "Christian": adulterers, wifebeaters, deadbeats, identity thieves, con artists and even one murderer. Look around. The ones who are preaching the loudest have the most to hide. Church is a business. They have their target market, product and their advertising gimmicks. Joel Osteen and every other preacher is a salesperson. They want their fifteen minutes. It's easy to be a big fish when you have a small pond. When the congregation is willing to check their God-given gifts of discernment and logic at the door, they are primed to be perfect abuse victims. Natural Law contradicts everything in the Bible. The Bible contradicts the Bible! The Creator made Natural Law so that we have a consistent formula from which to predict the consequences of our actions. Brainwashing does not change the facts. When you liberate yourself from the church (like I did), you will have unimagineable clarity and peace.

The reason he is under criticism is because he was willing to compromise on the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith when he was a guest on Larry King Live. You can search on the internet for the transcript and see what was said.

I'm a Christian, also, and I don't know a great deal about this guy, but I believe he preaches the prosperity message. Forgive me if I'm wrong. My problem with that is that there are a lot of Christians who don't have big cars, big houses, and I don't believe it's because God hasn't blessed them, but God blesses people differently. John the Baptist lived in the desert and ate milk and honey, but we can't assume he wasn't blessed by God! In fact, Jesus said John was the incarnation of Elijah! Jesus was the Son of God, but He wasn't materially rich...Don't know if this helps, pray about it!

i'm hoping his heart is appropriate yet from what i'm getting from his messages is, a sugar lined gospel. I pray he does what's appropriate with the aid of fact he has the resourses to unfold the actual meaning of the Bible. i think of hes extra of a motivational speaker than a preacher. i'm hoping hes no longer preferable people off beam. I keep away from mega church homes.

See, that's you'r problem!! You'r going from church to church! Why?' God and Jesus are with you. You can talk to God anytime!!
yes, jesus said, that they'll be a time when preachers will come dress as sheep, but will kill like wolves!! Satan wants all the followers he can get, before Christ chains him again!!

You know just recently I started having some negative feelings about him. I don't know why. I watched him every Sun morning and then I go to My church and I just don't know what it is but I just stopped listening to him. My heart and gut feels right at my church, we are taught right out of the Bible nothing added and nothing taken away from it.
I do not criticize him or any other preacher, if my gut does not feel right I just don't listen to them.

It depends on Joel Osteen's intentions which we cannot judge very well.
Just protect yourself and your pocket book.
