I was officially homeless after I chose to take my children out of our family home to get away from their father who wanted me dead.
Nobody in their right mind wants to be homeless

I am indifferent to them to be honest, i know some homeless people prefer to be that way and this is the life they have chosen, i will give money as i pass and on for some of the regular ones i see i will buy a coffee and a burger. I do feel that we should do more to help those who do not want to live this way but they also have to be willing to change there lives.

You have to understand that a lot of down-and-outs have suffered a major crisis from which they have never recovered. These crises include divorce, redundancy and business failure. Some of them are intelligent, educated people. I knew one in the West End, and he was really scruffy, but if you insulted him in French or Spanish he'd give as good as he got, replying right back in that same language. Another time I was in Nottingham city centre, resting on a bench, and this dirty, unkempt guy approached me, sat down next to me and started talking. The conversation went something like this:
Him: "What's your name?"
Me: "David"
Him: "Me too, my name is David also ... but you're a David, right, not a Dave?"
Me: "Well I prefer David, but I don't mind if people call me Dave"
Him: "No, you must always be a David, and never a Dave. You must never let them take your Id away"
At that point, I wondered whether he was demented or exceptionally well-educated. As the conversation continued it turned out that this was no mad man, but rather someone who had been to university. The Id is one of the three parts of the personality (it is the unconscious pleasure-seeking element of the human pysche), according to Freudian psychology. I would never have guessed his education from his appearance.

One further point, also based on my own personal experience ... I went through a bitterly hostile divorce, and for a long time I suffered from serious depression and often felt suicidal. On my better days then, I even considered just walking out on life and living rough. I am thankful that I never did, but, as already quoted from the Ralph McTell song, "Streets of London", there but for fortune go you or I. The gap between them and us is thin - believe me.

most homeless people are not there out of choice, think with this present government ,people need to think "there but for the grace of god ".
