Is there any way to stop micrsoft movie maker freezing when opening a project?

I know its a crap piece of software but i needed to use somthing to make a quick vid. I had finished the vid, exported it and then went back and changed a few things. Surprise surprise it froze, so I killed it and tried to reopen the project. Now when it says its checking the project files it just hangs there. So anyone got any ideas, if not anyone know any other vid editing software that will open move maker files? *.mswmm .

If you are still working with Movie Maker 1, you should try it with the latest version 2.1.
