Its less a religion as it is a study of your own mind. Buddhism has no dogma, you don't have to believe anything. Meditation, slowing then stopping your mind from thinking on its own, allows you to investigate your own mind and reality. You can be a Christian, Muslim or whatever and still practice Buddhism. However, because Buddhism values all life as you would value your own. You will not be killing anyone. As an example of Meditation, suppose you are an insomniac because your mind keeps you awake at night, worries, thoughts about anything. Suppose you could stop your mind from wandering all over the place and get to sleep. This is what practicing meditation aims to do. Its not just a cure for insomnia. Most peoples minds are doing the same thing all day long, not just when they are trying to sleep. Once you get your mind back and you stop it from jumping from thought to thought. Now you can use it to Observe life without prejudices, opinions, preconditioned views on things, bigotry, stubbornness etc. When you observe like this you see reality. You think for yourself and find Peace. I suppose people here are going to mention reincarnation. Maybe reincarnation & karma are true, maybe they arn't. I don't know. Hope this helped.

When I pass the Budhist store, they offer meditation.
They have books on the paths to peace.
They have very fat happy statues of Buddha, while many people in China are still straving.
I understand that there are very many different Buddha

What kind of peace do they mean? I am not sure.
The meditation seems to be about forgetting yourself: therefore probably giving all you have to help the Buddha stay fat would be considered a good thing.

The peace is just temporary ( for today?), while Christianity is based on the one person - Jesus Christ - who is willing to help us live better and obey God.

His peace is a different kind of peace. It uses all of our abilities and allows us to be ourselves. He was not fat, although he did enjoy food.

I believe that if you are truly looking for a good religion - Buddhaism would be excellent.
But if you are looking for a good life.
Find out what Jesus was like. A good place to start is by reading the Gospels in the Bible.

Buddhism is the easiest of religions but very difficult to practise.
In fact it may be very difficult to find a true follower of Buddha.
Buddha Understood that all troubles of human being comes out of his greed and possessiveness. In fact Buddha said desire is the cause of all Evil. Give up all desires and give your possessions to the needy you will attain peace and happiness. A person who has nothing has nothing to loose
Do not harm any living things even it be a plant or tree. Show love and kindness to all. No one is your enemy.

Buddhism is amazing it has been studied and this is true that buddhists are by far the most happy of all religious people. There was a study on thier brains during meditation and they showed an unprecidented amount of acticity on the part of the brain regarding pleasure. However that is not what is amazing about the religion study it for yourself. The bible is wrong DOWN WITH FAITH.

Buddha was a man who abandoned his own family: dad, step mom, wife, son...to live ascetic life with Hindus...separated from the...rested under the fig tree for years...and then he claims that he reached the nirvana...and he got all the knowledge about everything...he claims that there is not god, and then he says that he has even more knowledge than God has...

Mainly this his path is for people who do not recognize that there is God, you brought everything to yourself and there is no one else than you to help you out. I find this religion very confusing.

But that is because I have chosen to follow Jesus Christ and what God talks to me through His life manual for me {the Bible} I want to be with Jesus after I die, so I need to go to Jesus for my salvation. Jesus is the way and the truth and the life...at least for me.

Buddhism is a philosophy-a way of life. It is very good. And, no matter what your religion is-----having some of this philosophy can be an added plus.

1. Get a book on Buddhism.
2. Read it.
3. Stop asking people on question/answer boards about things that are better found from actual research.

No, because it only offers religion "good" for the present, but doesn't save the soul. Only Jesus saves.
