Kristen is right on target. Most folks with liver cancer will usually go into a coma prior to dying as the levels of toxicity rise due to failure of the organ affected. Her kidneys are working overtime and this will also be one of the reasons as the kidneys do eventually shut down as well.
Sorry to hear the news....I am a hepper to even though my HCV is cured. I do have a chance tho of still developing liver cancer.
My sympathies. Just be there for her regardless of her health, coma ect....the last thing to go is the hearing.
HUGS.

Sounds like her liver is shutting down and she has hepatic encephalopathy. It's a buildup of the ammonia level in the body. Tends to happen when people have end stage liver disease. Only way to help it some is to give a medicine called Lactulose which causes diarrhea - this brings the ammonia level down some. However, sometimes in these circumstances ignorance is bliss for the patient. If the ammonia level begins to rise she will slip into a coma a pass away peacefully.

It could be either the cancer or the hep-c. Or it could even be the meds used to control the pain. The liver serves a lot of very important functions, and if something goes wrong with it- well, a lot of other organs can get shut down too.
I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

it could be the cancer or the hep-c itself.
The cancer can metastisize to the brain quickly if malignant enough, and the hep-c infection in some cases if virulent enough can either invade other tissue, cause hormonal and chemical shifts resulting in neurologic dysfunction, or cause a systemic inflammation which may impact the brain.
Either way, it's a chicken and the egg kind of thing, but yes, it's most likely because of the disease.

There is no cure for hepatitis C.
Hepatitis C is one of the most common causes of chronic liver disease in the U.S. today. At least 80% of patients with acute hepatitis C ultimately develop chronic liver infection, and 20% to 30% develop cirrhosis. Between 1% and 5% of patients may develop liver cancer. Hepatitis C is now the number 1 cause for liver transplantation in the U.S.
Please see the webpages for more details on Hepatitis C and Liver cancer.

My mother in law was told she had liver cancer and passed away three days later, although she was told she had several weeks "left." It can progress rather rapidly.
