Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Get over a little of your shyness and be friendly, but don't put all your emotion into your attempt at friendliness. Should you and he begin being more friendly as a result, one thing can lead to another. If not and you remain friends, you won't feel rejected but you will have gained a friend.
