Other than a few weddings and funerals I've not been since I was 15.The only reason I went that long was due to my girlfriend at the time went and it was easier to go along than to go home and come back after. You know 15 year olds , always together all the time forever and ever and ever..what was her name...hmmm..lol..naw , I remember her fondly..
Why i stopped was I guess I had gotten to an age where my parents had accepted that I could make my own decisions and the whole "God " scenario never sat right with me from a very young age.

I decided that church was not for me around age 8. My attendance didn't completely stop until about age 10, but it declined gradually over the years between. I still attend occasionally, for the sake of my fiance, but I have transcended the need to be "for" or "against" any given religion.

As for why, I personally find that no one religion encompasses the whole truth within itself. I seek the whole truth rather than settling for a single or even a few points of view.

The first time was when I was 14 and realized how hypocritical it was. The second time was when I was 18 and it confirmed the hypocrisy. The last time was in my mid to late 30's. My husband and I took our children to a few different churches to introduce them to the idea so that they could choose what they wanted. Decided then that church definately wasn't for us but if our children want to go then they could decide for themselves where and when.

I saw the double speak from 'leaders' who could not answer the very doctrine they taught if I asked a simple question or pointed out a scripture that contradicted what they taught

so if they were men of god then of course they would not admit to error

so I left

I came back after finding a fellowship of people without creed, but based on principle and ethics that value life and choice, the things I thought Americans valued...

5 years ago and there is a long list of reasons....My ex husband was having an affair with the pastors daughter, and his wife....then after that....I was told that the reason sheep need a shepherd is because they are stupid (by my pastor) And when I questioned things like why we celebrate chiristmas and easter when they're not really our holidays, I got blasted.....the list goes on, but basically I had had enough. There is more freedom outside of that religion that people realize.

October 23, 2005. I finally decided I could no longer believe in a Bible that condoned slavery (Paul even commanded one slave to return to his master after he escaped!) , genocide (look at the Isrealites destroying the Caananites in mass numbers), the degradation of women, and encouragment of child abuse (Proverbs recomends "beating your child"!). And it was too full of contradictions.

Since I did not believe in the Bible, I was not going to attend a place that declared it to be 100% the word of God.

When I finally decided Christianity was not for me. My G-d would never come to earth in human form. My G-d is One.
