It is good that he is money conscious, but money hungry is not good. If he wants to work for things, that is really good for him, he wants to pay for his own things or save up for things. He should not be put down for wanting to be responsible. But, he needs to know school comes first and it should be made clear to him that if he wants to make alot of money and be successful he needs to do well in school and go to college. Talk to your parents about maybe giving him some chorse around the house or maybe he can mow neighbors lawns, as for a job in the work field it should be put off for right now, he is too young and many places won't hire a 12 year old. Liability is too great. Have him work around the house, or at neighbors helping out. It is good thathe wants to responsible.

There aren't that many jobs out there for him, short of odd jobs, yard work or babysitting for neighbors and friends. He's most certainly not going to be able to get a "real" job at his age. There's really nothing wrong with him want to earn some money on his own, but if your parents are against it there must be a reason why they feel that way. Maybe they think his school work will suffer or something. I tend to agree with you on this.....he needs to be a "kid" as long as he can. Once he enters the adult work-a-day world, there is no going back. If he only held off for another two years...............???

Depending on what state you live in, children can't work anyway, until they are at least 14 and have working papers..
He could however make some extra spending money doing yardwork in the neighborhood or maybe helping an elderly neighbor do things around the house. Thats what my 12 yr old son does... Not only does it teach them the value of money, it also gives them some responsibility and a sense of accomplishment, that they earned it themselves.

He could always start out small like mowing the neighbors yard or pet sitting. I believe the youngest you are able to get a job in a regular business is 14 and even then you have to get a work permit through your school. It is a great way to start having independence and learn how to save money.

See if you oppose he will rebel out. One question ask yourself what you would have done? Convince your parents to get him jobs like baby sitter, let him take petty jobs. Don't think he is money hungry. Just have a talk with him as per why he needs a job so badly? Thats the only remedy, so don't jump to conclusions and take hasty decisions

First think about the legal age to work in your town. Then explain to your brother that along with making a good days pay comes responsible like paying for things he wants on his own.

Tell him he can't get a work permit until he is 14.....true in most states....there are child labor laws. Now if he wants to start a business, more power to him...he can mow lawns, walk dogs, do all kinds of chores...and the lemonade stand has stood the test of time.

Maybe your mom and dad can have him to do chores around the house and they can pay him for doing it. I don't know where you would get a job at the age of 12. Tell him to ask the neighbors if they have any work for him (doing yard work, cleaning outside, etc.) Good luck.
