If it's a baby tooth - oh well. It might be just a bruised tooth. It happens. If there is no pain, just hold on and wait until it falls out.
If it's a permanent tooth, it means the nerve is dead. See the question about 4 or 5 below this one about the 12 year old with 3 loose teeth for more explanation.

The "black" in the tooth is dried blood. There was trauma of some kind to the tooth, and it is no longer a viable tooth. You will more than likely have to have it pulled and replaced with a Bridge (a crown on each tooth beside the removed tooth, which has a fake tooth attached in between) or a removeable prosthetic. In any event, you need to visit you dentist as soon as you can.
If you are meaning the tooth is eaten up and black, that's tooth decay. It depends on how bad it is as to what procedure (s) will "fix" it.

It means that the tooth is dead. Could the tooth possibly been injured at some time of another? If so, you really need to see a dentist to have it taken care of. If you are scared of going to the dentist there is some almost clear gel that they can put on the gum and around the tooth to numb it before the dreaded needle comes. Close your eyes and relax.. It will aal be ok.

That means that the tooth is dead go to the dentist asap. Even if you do not have coverage there are dentists that will see you and bill you on a sliding scale (at least in NYC).

You need to go see a dentist that tooth has died. If you do not take care of that tooth it may spread. Then you will end up with a mouth full of dead teeth.

it means the tooth was damaged and basically is now dead. if it is a "baby tooth" the new tooth will probably be fine... If it is your second tooth, you will probably have to have a crown placed on it.
