"Think of it this way, if I'm wrong, then when I die I'll just be dead. But if they're wrong (and they are), and God is real, then in hell will they lift up their eyes. What do I have to lose?"
Could we all just take a moment, educate ourselves about what Pascal's Wager is and why it is a false argument....

and NEVER BRING IT UP AGAIN?
Thank you.
(yes, it's a pet peeve of mine. Sue me)

But what if Pascal's Wager isn't false? In that case... oh, well... nevermind.

As a Christian, I feel that it is mistaken at best to say "Oh well, if I'm wrong I'll just be dead. What do I have to lose?"
Hypothetically speaking-we would stand to lose everything we've hoped for and lived for and believed in if we were wrong. I can think of no greater tragedy than to not have my God.
It certainly isn't a matter of "oh well" for me, neither is it to my Christian brothers and sisters who have realized (inasmuch as God has revealed) what we have received in Christ.

Pascal's wager requires one to accept the premise that a *God* exists, entertaining the wager is, in and of itself, a capitulation of critical thinking.

Of course Paschal was wrong; deathbed conversions are the only thing that make sense in his logic (or flawed logic).
I like Occam's Razor more. Let's get everyone quoting THAT every day around here!

No. I have calculated the amount of time it takes for a believer to bring it up and have come up with the answer. No. we definitely cannot make it through one day without someone trying to use that flawed argument.

New people log on here all the time and you will see it again. Every day. For the rest of your life.
I like Homer's Gambit myself. That is my normal response, or something close to it.

Probably not. I reply, "My god is irate with you for believing in such a silly idea as .... [fill in the blank with the religion of your choice]. Since you are too witless to see my god's true nature, my god is going to consign you to hell."

Holy wimpering wednesday batman, I hate that crap too. My Dad uses that tired crap all the time, it makes me want to scream. It would be nice to go postal, whip out a 45 and say "Should we find out now?"
