No, it's not marshmallow, it's buttercream or butter icing (I think it's called frosting in the US!).

It's easily made by whipping about 4oz (100g) icing sugar (confectioner's/powdered sugar in US?) and 2oz (50g) butter or margarine and a few drops of vanilla flavouring with enough warm water to make the consistency you require.

For anyone who doesn't know - Mr Kipling is a cake manufacturer in the UK. French fancies are little squares (about 1inch) of sponge with blob of buttercream on top, covered all over in fondant icing. Definitely better than the Marks and Spencer ones.

What the heck are 'Mr Kiplings French Fancies' to begin with ? Is it some kind of pastry ? What part of the country or world are you talking about ? Never heard of them here in Western NY

Delightful fondant iced sponge cakes with a vanilla flavoured filling....
Ingredients say nothing about marshmallow, I think its a buttercream icing.

i dont think its marshmallow in the middle its more like a butter cream type icing.

Its a butter cream, mix butter with icing sugar then add in food colour of choice.

No. It's called buttercream but it never tastes the same if you make it yourself (it's better 'cos it doesn't have all the artificial crap in!)

its a cream fondant centre but you could make your own so much more fun by using marshmellow! and it probably taste nicer!
