It somewhat depends on if you have a male or a female. Males can be trained to imitate sounds, but they aren't as social as females. However, the more attention you give them, the more social they will become. The best way to get them to imitate sounds is to repeat the sound over and over again. My male cockatiel wolf whistles at me, and I tried to teach him the Godfather theme, but he pretty much got stuck after the first 3 notes and I haven't been able to get him to do more. My parents's neighbors have a cockatiel who can whistle the entire theme from the Andy Griffith show. My male is happy to be in his cage whistling at me. My female, however, doesn't imitate at all and would prefer to be sitting on my shoulder preening my eyelashes (not the safest thing in the world).

To make him freindly, he needs to be socialized. At first you can start by putting your hand in the cage. When is comfortable with your hand, try putting it closer to him. After a while, you should be able to touch him, and then work from there.

To make him speak, it takes repitition. You can say the word you want him to learn over and over and over and over and over........or you can buy a cd with fraises on it that will do the job for you; try a pet store or go to www.drsfostersmith.com. The same applies for whistling.

All of the above answers are really good. Just one thing left out. If you train with your voice then you need to speak in very high tones.
