It's the lower in any leaves that I can think of off hand

mostly the lower -- this is because the lower part of the midrib will provides more mechanical strength to keep the leaf from curving downwards under its own weight.

Both are the same, only at opposite arcs. It's like one-half a circle as opposed to the other half--in my opinion--unless it's an unusual shape, in which case it would probably be obvious.

It is the lower part as in many plants the lower part is more thick and swollen.
