Interesting !! Enjoyed reading the question... it has funny side but at the same time, can be of real life relevance in court room for some other scenarios..LOL.....

Though in this case, I guess it will NOT be termed as a hostage situation. I guess the person with multiple personalities can only be one person (personality at a given time) and can not exhibit both the personalities at the same time. So, if that person is threatening to kill himself, he is threatening to kill the 'same' person(ality)..... and so it should be termed as suicidal attempt......
(of course, my answer is based on the assumption that a person with multiple personality disorder changes into different personality but can have only one personality at a given time)

Man, I had fun thinking about the answer.... its funny yet intriguing question.... LOL

Not really, Jaina..
He can display multiple personalities at one same time but when he do that, the other personalities would appear of something like a "imaginery friend", which of coz we do not count as hostage then.
And the person himself may not know/admit having multiple pesonalities, which also hold the key to the above question.
Still he is he, his other personalities are all him, if that is a hostage situation, all suicides would be too.. single or multiple..

It is a hostage situation because the man has several different personalities threatening to kill him if he doesn't cooperate.

No off course not, as inspite of the personalities it still is just the one person.and if he is planning to kill himself well there will be no one other than himself to worry about . Thus no hostage. It is also rare for more than one personanlity to present it self at the same time.
