No direction at all... You did say an electric train. an electric train has no smoke coming out from it... It's not an ordinary train which uses coal as a fuel like those in the old days..... :) It uses electricity... so where will the smoke come from if you use electricity.....

Even if the train or the conductor were smoking, the riddle would be insoluble. You didn't tell us how fast it travels west. It could be so slow that it wouldn't reach the turning point before 160 minutes.
