I think that the biggest mistake that men can make is in assuming that women do not have a brain. That probably is true anywhere in the world, not just in the USA. By this I mean using canned, tired lines instead of just saying hello, engaging in conversation, and seeing where things go from there.

Don't be insecure or shy. The ladies like self assured, confident men. Helps to be well dressed and groomed.
In the approach, just say "hi" and start talking about something that going on. eg. the band, your drink, her drink, etc. If your not in a bar or club, talk about the fruit, etc.if you're at the supermarket, the books at the library, the video's at the store.

Avoid any "chat up" lines, and be honest.
If it's someone you know already, it's easy; you just get talking.
If it's a stranger, then it's a lot tougher, and depends on the environment.
For example, if it's in a pub or club, offer to buy her a drink. You'll know within a minute or two whether you're in with a shot.

the bigest mistake for any man to make with a woman from anywhere it to be fake. if you want a woman to like you just be yourself. dont try to be someone you are not . it will catch up with you sooner or latter and that will hurt feelings all over the place.
