I would say just make sure you keep his coat clean--and what i found works for keeping them shiny and untangled is to comb them at least twice a week, and if they get tangled use Johnson and Johnson no more tears detangler spray...it's safe enough for babies...

Get an ear cleanser from your vet for the insides of the ears, and ask them to teach you how to do a thorough deep cleaning of the ears at home. Water works well for most dogs, cockers have more ickiness in their ears than most dogs. Rubbing alcohol dries out the ears, and can make it harder to get the deep debris out. Hydrogen peroxide will help bring the deeper debris up, but most dogs don't hold still for that long. Clean your cockers ears weekly and brush them regularly as well. Plucking the hair from the inside of the ear works wonders too. Occasionally flip your dogs ears over the back of it's head, so you can see in the ears, and hold in place with a hair clip for awhile. This promotes air flow into the ears and dries them naturally without hardening the debris in the ears. Part of the reason cockers get such bad ears is that their ears are so hairy and heavy, that no air can get inside. Bacteria love dark, warm, moist places to grow in. Cockers ears are perfect for that. Keeping your cocker groomed, either at home or by a professional will help also. For those who don't like the sounds of clippers, try scissor cutting the fur.

The best way is to clean them. Use cotton swabs. You can buy ear cleansing solutions but it isn't needed. If you want solution you can buy it at a pet store or online at www.drsfostersmith.com.

If he goes in an outside enviroment, mske sure he stays out of the dirt.

Try to keep the rest of him clean, his his wont get diry as fast.

As far as giving him a treatment, there really isn't anything you can give that will make his ears stay clean.

Good luck

Q-tips that simple. I have a golden mix and she has very floppy ears, but the vet said that she had the cleanest ears he'd ever seen. You don't need anything special just be gentle and don't put the q-tip in too far.

I have a cockerspaniel and it is almost next to impossible unless you never let it outside. and spend the whole day brushing and bathing it..
There ears hang in there food and the get tangles unless you keep them trimmed really short. wipe its ears everytime that it eats. . we live on a farm and my dog hates it's ears trimmed . noise of the clippers i think.. but i really find it hard to keep the ears looking good.
I trim once a month to keep matting from occuring.. but other than that she is pretty much on her own to keep clean..
let me know if you find a way other than tieing them back ..

I HAVE A GOLDEN I KEEP HER WELL GROOMED.I CLEAN OUT HER EARS WITH A COTTON BALL AND A SMALL AMOUNT OF RUBBING ALCOHOL.
SHE LOVES TO SWIM SO I ALWAYS DRY HER EARS AND I FEED HER A 1/4 OF CUP OF PLAIN YOGURT ONCE A DAY. THE LIVE CULTURES HELP KEEP THE BACTERIA FROM FORMING IN HER EARS. I HAVE HAD NO MORE PROBLEMS WITH EAR INFECTIONS SINCE I STARTED DOING THIS.

there is something you can put in their food with lanolin and comfrey it is put out by the solid gold food and it's natural. also when you go to the groomers have them shave the inside flap of their ear leather so it can get more air. some cocker ears get to the point that the vet needs to sew theirs closed.
