Hmmmm

The spirits don't cross over.

Well some believe they become ghosts/poltergeists etc, and that they only don't cross over because they still have a reason to stay behind (violent death etc).

Sensible people don't believe in the human spirit as some sort of life force.

The Bible says we share the Spirit of Life with the animals, neither being greater than the other, so I imagine it doesn't go anywhere. As for the soul, it dies with the body. The only thing left is you good name, if you have one, which is written in the Book of Life, for determining whether, when you are resurrected during the second resurrection of Revelations, that you will be raised to Everlasting Life or Judgment.

Of course, there are the beliefs of ancient Rome, which says there is a spirit that lives on beyond the grave,

As for going to Hell, the oldest Greek scrolls of the scriptures, held by the Vatican, has no words that translate as Hell or Hell fire.

nicely first of all only like the Serpent tempting Eve with the forbidden fruit there is not any point out what so ever that this fruit replaced into an Apple. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that time and time lower back you pay attention human beings say it replaced into an Apple. It only isn't in the Bible. Likewise, you specifically pay attention human beings say "The thief on the pass"... lower back, no point out what so ever in scripture that this guy replaced into in fact a thief. The bible only says offender. So permit's get that straight away beforehand we proceed on with any argument. So the two Jesus replaced into mendacity to the guy. Or the Roman Guards permit the offender climb down off his pass for a speedy dunk beforehand nailing him lower back up there lower back. Or water baptism isn't necessary to salvation. Heck, i might hate to be an unsaved guy up in an aircraft being witnessed to by way of an evangelist when I comprehend that i could desire to have confidence and be saved. Pity if the aircraft then crashed beforehand i will make my thank you to a sufficient pool of water and quite be saved for genuine. Extenuating circumstances have not any ability over faith.

A) The idea of hell was created to control people. How can you believe in God and believe in hell - I don't get that one..." A Course in Miracles" says that what is one being can not have an opposite. Aside from that, if God is LOVE why would he/how could he send anyone to hell...think about it.
B) There are layers of existence. Someone who is afraid to die would become trapped here or on another plain of existence. That is how Ghosts come to be.

why would a spirit not cross?
There are angels to carry the spirits when people die, they don't just float around like the movies usualy portray.

No after-life, as if you can live after you have lived. Stupid belief, Satan started that one in the garden of Eden. No hell ether, pagan belief, non Christian, But good catholics believe in hell, purgatory, that kind of thing. No, God is not sadistic, He does not take pleasure in our torments, so He does not torment us.

IF there is such a thing as a spirit (which I do not believe), it probably does not get a CHOICE about where to go.
