Use regular saline drops, with nothing else in them if you need to wash their eyes. There is no reason for cleaning of a dogs eyes without being directed to by a vet. Dogs do have eyeslashes though, so ignore the person who said they don't. As long as the dog has normal tearing, they wash their own eyes. Some dogs have colored discharge, hence the brown staining on some light colored dogs, and this can be treated easily by your veterinarian. If you think your dog doesn't have normal tearing function, a 2 minute test will give you incredibly accurate results. It is called a Shirmers Tear Test, and your vet can do that for you. The fluoroscein stain test (the dye test) is used to see if there are any ulcers or scratches in the eye. A damp washcloth can be used to clean any eye goop accumulating on the outside of the eye. Genteal drops, at your local pharmacy, can be used to lubricate the eye safely, as long as your dog has been diagnosed with a tear deficiency (dry eye).

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU0j3

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

The normal Visene "artificial tears" is ok to use on dogs, but you don't need to clean your dog's eyes unless you suspect something is in there. If your dog has discharge coming from the eye constantly, take him/her to the vet to make sure there are no problems. A simple eye stain usually rules out anything bad.

Just bear in mind that not all human eye drops were created equal.
Products like Nevanac, Vigamox, or Econopred might not be the best of ideas (they are commonly used after eye surgery)
Products of the Systane (saline) class would be safe to use.
of course a visit to the vets office instead of the pharmacy might be just as easy , and a lot safer.

Please consult a vet. Not everything that's safe for people is safe for animals. If your dog needs an eye washing- your vet will know what to use or it may need to be done in the office.

I think it should be ok. After all, my vet prescribed eye lotion for my doggie those used by human too. SO eye wash for human should not be a problem if used on dogs. Just my opinion tho.

they sell special eye wash at the pet store. i don't know how special it is, but that's what i would use...

i don't know if you need to clean the actual eye, but you should absolutely clean around the eye, and remove any globs of things pretty regularly, to avoid infection.

Vets use a regular saline eye wash, purchased at any pharmacy. Perfectly safe. For reassurance, consult with your vet.

Fiest dogs have NO eyelashes, so their eyes tend to run a little.

I wipe my dog's eyes once in a while, but I make sure that her eyes are closed when I do. Make sure you don't put your fingers in their eyes when rubbing.

I think the eye wash might be OK, but not too often.
