My eldest got rid of her own blanket at 2 years old, my youngest kept hers until she was 6 and in school. She put the blanket in a box and in her closet and even though she is now 12, she'll still pull it out when she is bothered by something that she thinks is too great to deal with. So, she still relies on her blanket and I'm guessing always will to some degree or another.

As long as they need it. That's why it's a security blanket. Mine grew out of theirs at about 6 years old. And she didn't want us to wash it because she said that made it "smell yucky!". EW.

If you dont want her to have it anymore......hide in the closet and you will hear her cry for it for a couple of weeks but then she will be okay......its like the binky.......just take it away and in 2 weeks she will have forgot about it........unless you dont care if she has it then she will probably carry it around until she is 5 or so.

Most kids might outgrow this....other will have it til they are teenagers. It's a normal thing, its just like a favorite toy or something.

My neice that is 14 still has hers. Please let your child keep it as long as he wishes. It is his and has had it his whole life. Just like you love your pillow he too loves his blanket.
