I am here at my boy friends house. Helping him do some laundry.
I am all alone, and I go to put his clothes in the closet. I hear a bunch of meowing. I thought something was wrong with his cat. So I look for her. Well I found her and she has a bunch of kittens. I dont know what to do. I feel like I should get them out and check and make sure they are ok. But I heard before you shouldnt pick up newborn kittens. Please I cant get a hold of my boyfriend and I need help!!

Get a carboard box with an open top big enough for her to lay in. Put some towels, preferably what they were already laying on. Wash your hands, pick up the kittens, place them in the box. Place the box near where, mama had them originally. Put mama in the box so she knows her babies are fine. Cats are not like baby birds and a cat will NOT reject kittens because they have been handled by humans. More often than not she will be protective but PROUD of her brood. If you praise her and teell her how pretty her kittens are I bet she'll be quite pleased. The only cats that will have trouble with human intervention are wild outdoor cats. If this is your boyfriends cat....she is used to you guys already. Make a kittening box...THEN call your bouyfriend and wig out....lol. Make sure you wash your hands , because young kittens can catch colds easily.

If the cat is a stray, and you pick up newborns, they tend to abandon them, because they can smell human scent. But, if this is an indoor cat, and is used to people, it should be okay. Just be sure to wash your hands well before handling them. Find a box or even the laundry basket, line it with some towels or a blanket and put mom and all the babies inside. Offer her some water and food, as she may need some extra nourishment right now. Then watch to be sure that she is cleaning and feeding the little ones.

Just get close to them to make sure they are all okay, and that the mom is cleaning them. Since it's been over a half hour, hopefully they are all delivered and everything is going well. Don't pick up the kitties yet, the mother will feel threatened. But when you go close to see them, try to pet the mom and talk to her, tell her that she's done a good job and congratulate her on doing a good job with her babies. (no, I'm not crazy, she needs to hear that). She needs to trust you and your boyfriend, so later in the day when you do pick up a kitten (Cuz it's too hard to resist), just pick one up in sight of the mom and don't walk away anywhere with it yet. Leave that for a few days. Your boyfriend will have to see if they need to be moved later if they are not in a good place. Just enjoy listening to those sweet little mews and watch them eat and sleep! I envy you!

Like Jaded Ruby said, you should get her a good kittening box and make sure she is comfortable, those kittens are going to need somewhere to stay! You also need to make sure all those kittens made it through all right. CATS ARE NOT BIRDS!! She will not reject them because they "smell like you". Hello, cats have eyes! This is some of the most absurd information I have ever seen. Be careful handling them and wash your hands. Most momma cats will not take issue with you holding a kitten, as long as you give her back. Good luck, and please listen to Jaded Ruby!

It's perfectly safe to pick up newborn kittens as long as the mother allows it. Don't take them where she can't see them and she should be fine. It's actually good to hold them from birth cause its important for them to get human scent on them so that they will be more sociable cats in the future. Congratulatons on all the little baby furry purries.

Leave the kittens alone unless you are going to take them to the vet for a checkup (highly reccomended, take momma too to make sure she's ok). To do this, you first need to get momma cat away from the babies so she can't hurt you or the babies. Get a cat carrier and stick her inside. Next GENTLY pick up each baby and put them in a basket with a hot water bottle and towels in it for them to snuggle in. If you have a LARGE cat carrier/box, put the momma in first, then place the babies carefully in there. If the momma cat freaks out during car rides, it's best to keep the babies separate so she can't stomp on them in her desparation to get out of the box/car.

You don't need to check on them. Mother cats are very intuitive. And yes, you can handle them. I have a litter of five kittens, three weeks old. My two year old loves to play with them. The mother is very tolerant.

I think you should leave them alone. Not that you will harm them, but it's possible that his cat doesn't know your scent all that well... And she may not be able to recognize her kitties with your scent all over them.

Don't worry, when you get in touch with your boyfriend is not too late. Make sure the cat has always access to them, and if you can see them suckle. They will be all right... :)

Personally, I don't think its fine to pick up a newborn kitten. It's really fragile, and the parent may attack you if it feels threatened by ur presence beside its baby.
