Typically, pro-lifers advocate abstinence-only as a means of birth control. With their numbers increasing, its clearly not working.

It often depends upon the type of birth control.
The pill works by preventing ovulation, so many people find that to be acceptable, whereas the IUD works by preventing the fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus, so that, in effect, is an abortion. The condom and diaphram work as a barrier, so again, this is not destroying a fertilized egg. RU486 (the morning after pill) works by hormonally aborting a fertilized egg.
HOWEVER, in many cases, people are opposed to abortion because it "encourages immorality" - meaning it "allows people to avoid the consequences of their actions." These people are often against all types of birth control, believing that sex outside of marriage is wrong and that married couples should have sex only for the purpose of reproduction.
Personally, I am pro-choice. I do not understand the argument that abortion is murder, except we will condone it in cases of rape and incest. It is either murder or it is not. If you are against abortion on the grounds that it is murder, then you have to be prepared to force your 14 year old daughter to give birth to a rapists child.

Not necessarily.... Certain methods of birth control such as th IUD coild and the morning after pill are aborifacients, which means that they prevent the implantation into the womb of a fertilised ovum - an early embryo, a zygote.
This, depending on where life begins according to your beliefs can be considered as abortion.

No. Among practicing Catholics and among some conservatives the two usually go together, though they don't mean the same thing. Many people who are anti-abortion/pro-life also practice birth control.

For me, no. A non fertilized egg is not a human. A fertilized egg is a human. I do not care if that egg was fertilized less than a second ago, it is a human and to abort the person, is to murder the person. If you are practicing safe sex and or are taking birth control I say have a glorious time. Knock yourself out and don't knock yourself up.

Katlvr is completely wrong (see answer above). I know plenty of people who oppose abortion but have no problem with "less drastic" means of birth control, such as condoms, the pill, or IUDs.
The answer to your question is "No." Some of us just don't like a method of birth control that kills fetuses. What I read above is a gross gross oversimplification of a very complicated issue.

I don't think so. To me it is something completely different, although there will probably some people who are against both.
I don't like abortion, but I think it should be allowed in case of rape or incest or if the child is going to be very severely mentally ill. I never have problems with birth control.

I am against abortion. I am all for birth control. More birth control means less or no abortions. And by the way just because I say I am against abortion does not make me an extremist.

Most who are anti-abortion are for birth control (the only exception I know of is the Catholic church). The pro-abortion crowd is supported mostly by men who now have the freedom to be irresponsible.
