This bloke arrived at my door the other night ranting about an imaginary being that created everything and who'll give me a hard time after i die because I didnt believe in him. It wouldn't be so bad but another nutter came round with his own brand of delusion....

surely its not safe to let these people walk the streets?

I could not agree more! My sis is bipolar and when she was admitted in a psych ward they would only keep her for 72 hrs. That is NOT long enough to get them set up taking the right meds. or even enough time for the drugs they do give to really take effect! They need to be there long enough to be sane enough to realize where they are and why they're there and that they are sick and NEED medication. They sent her with a prescription she never filled. Unfortunately she lives in another state where as her all family lives in another so we can not keep her or her surroundings safe. The ward said if they don't have medical they will not keep them. Now how many of these psychotic people even give a **** about medical? We do need more action!!! It's scary!

I definitely feel that one of the most serious ,common and unrecognised psychological illnesses is 'sanity' : ie, the belief that you are sane ,your beliefs are the truth and that those who act or think differently are a threat or problem and need to be corrected.
The cure for this is insight into the relative truth of one's own views ,and the nature of our relationships to others and the world at large.
I guess ,as it happens, that many, who don't feel able to take such a step, or wish to , will seek shelter in trying to encourage others to share the burden of their beliefs. As long as there is a significant number of broader minded people around I don't think they pose too much danger.

i agree this is a nuisance, but there are no end to people like them. no matter what you do, it is not going to stop. even if we persuaded them to go around in pairs so they could bore each other with this kind of thing. it's not the beliefs that bother you so much, but their insistence to make the whole world adopt their views. despite a long history of prophets, who may have given out their views at inconvienent times or to people who were not receptive, i never read a scripture where a true prophet of any kind went door to door to try to recruit followers. so why should anyone do it in their names?
