I see it happening more often than not and to someone confused about religion, frankly, many religious people come off looking like hippocrits. I see catholics taking birth control, baptists drinking, all kinds of religious people thinking that they are God and condemning people to hell for their actions (Isn't that God's job and isn't there some verse about NOT judging), and just being nasty people, but somehow thinking they're above everyone else. I want to believe in something but not besides these people. HELP?!?

believe whatever you believe to be true. remember these are individual people and are susceptible to all the temptations of a worldly existence. no moral is without sin and faults please try to look for the positive and good not the evil and negative.

Poppies_rule,
You are so fortunate! You feel the call of God and you tell it like it is. I'm impressed!

We are able to distort the Word of God, and what you are noticing is the fruition of that message that they preach. Did you ever hear about Jimmy Swaggart? He preached the typical message of condemnation all the time. don't do this, do do that kind of thing, you know, it's what youare talking about. They talk that way and condemn others, until they get caught.

But the message never was condemnation in the Age of Grace. It Grace, unmerited favor. You have the ability to come to God because of the sacrifice of Jesus, who covered you for your sins, past, present and future.

So no matter what you do, you are covered away from the Wrath of God, to salvation by Faith. You have to trust in Jesus. If you need to change, and we all do, God's Spirit provides the means for that change. You have to trust Him though. Trust is a way to say faith.

So instead of preaching a message on condemnation, I have just told you the truth, as you have noticed the truth by what you said, do you notice the truth in what I said?

I completely agree with you. But you should base your beliefs on what you truly believe. If not, you'll just be blindly adhering to people who are also blind (e.g pedophile priests and birth control eating "christians").

If you're already have something to do with the Christian culture and are striving to believe in something, just open the bible and read. If the bible impacts you, you will believe. But you must be careful about turning into a bigot. I would suggest that you find a genuine, non-prejudiced Christian mentor to show you the bible for what it REALLY teaches and how it applies to you so that you do not interpret the teachings falsely.

And hey, once you are well-versed in the bible and what it really teaches, you can re-butt the afore-mentioned bigots when try to force their opinions on you by using the bible to justify their means.

Lastly, be open to challenge what you believe. I am a christian who challenges what the bible says on a regular basis. I don't want to believe something blindly. I want to know if what the bible says is true and why certain things are commanded as they are. I want to be sure. Personally, God hasn't ever left me hanging.

Just my 2cents. Good luck buddy. :)

None of us are perfect and that's why God sent us Jesus Christ. Follow the word of God and not people. Try not to be too concerned with what they are doing...be more concerned with what it is you are doing. Now to address your express concerns:

I'm a little confused. I can't find in the scriptures where it says you can't take birth control. Help me out with that one. Show me the scriptures.

Have as many children as you can afford (financially, emotionally and physically). However, if you can not afford more children then birth control is viable. Sex was given to married couples for procreation AND enjoyment!

As for drinking, the Bible tells us not to get drunk. Alcohol in moderation is acceptable to God. If you have a specific scripture you are thinking of, please share it.

You are correct; we are not to judge others, for we will be judged by the measure of judgment in which we judge. It's God's job to judge us...not ours.

If you are searching for a Church, that's great. You won't find any perfect ones. We are all human and have not arrived. We are all a work in progress!

My suggestion (and it's free) is to find a Church that is Spirit filled, teaches the Holy Bible only and urges you to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. One that pushes away from playing "Church" or being religious (rules and regulations of you must do this, this and or this to be holy and acceptable to God / Jesus). God loves us were we are. However, He wants to mold us into the followers of Christ that will glorify Him and His kingdom.

Jesus loves us. He loved us enough to die on the cross for our sins...so we could be Holy and acceptable to God.

Grace to you and God Bless!

Check out an "alternative" religion. I personally practice Vodou, which is non-evangelical, does not tell ANYONE they are going to hell (there is no Hell in Vodou), accepts everyone no matter their race, age, gender, sexual preference, marital status, etc. Vodou will also never tell anyone else that their religion is wrong. There are many paths to the sacred & it doesn't matter which path you take, they all get you to the same place eventually. There are many other religions in the world besides just Christianity, Judaism & Islam. Get on the web or in the library & find one that suits you.

for my self I believe in God and Jesus christ as my savior. I realize that they are hypocate or jugeding people in the christian and other relions Do not look at them to be perfect because as humans we are not perfect we have free will to do what we do or think that the problem. you have to worry about where your heart is with the lord and do your best with Jesus christ help to keep the commanants read the bible study it for yourself pray. Get to know Jesus as your own personal savior. and share with others the love of Jesus that you have. maybe those people you have seen havent realy Gave there life to the Lord they are doing it for differnt reasons like they grew up going to church and dont know any other way but they havent got yet there are people in the chruch who just go but dont believe or it what they do on sundays. Just remmber were not the judge where others are in there walk or where there heart is so dont wory what there doing wrong as it says who has ever has not sinned cast the first stone we have all sinned so dont judge them work on your own walk with the lord. and ask forgiveness for your own sins we all have them.

I've been where you are. For me I grew up in it (christianity) and felt that way as an adult......its very difficult for intelligent people to STAY in that kind of religion...because it makes no sense! Seek truth....know that there is nothing wrong with not having all the answers....follow your heart and don't let anyone judge you! There are so many that will support your choices and be your friend unconditionally...sadly, not many of them are christians....Its been my experience they can only be real friends with other christians! (that should tell you something right there) Best wishes!

Aren't their a lot of non-Christians who think that way too? You CAN be a good person with Jesus on your side. Without Jesus you are bound to be full of arrogance and sin. It's up to you to keep your relationship with God correct and be good. Other people can be hypocrites. You will make mistakes too. forgive them, forgive yourself and get yourself right again with our savior

Remember my friend to follow God not people. All people fall short of the glory of God. Jesus is perfect and full-filled all prophecy written about Him during his earthly ministry. No man could do this, save one: The Son of God, Jesus Christ. Read the Bible and follow what it says.

You may believe in one even if you disagree with that when you see the truth in it. You do not have to look in people because like anybody else, they are fallible. You look to God instead and ask Him to give you wisdom and guidance where you can grow in your faith.
