I personally think you should really try to meet the person before embarking in a long distance relationship. In my experience it is very easy to start caring for someone from afar but once you meet them and there is no chemistry it really sucks. You care but you know that the spark you need is not there.
If you have meet the person in person, and the chemistry is good I would say for 3-4 months. You can tell if there is a future for you both and if the chemistry and go on strong from afar.

My wife and I made it work for 4 years while we were in college in the early 70's - that was using phone calls once a week and snail mail. It ought to be easier now.
On the other hand, i think we are the exception.
Good Luck.

You dint sound to sure about it, if you really liked the person or thought you were in love you would give it a good chance... You would wanna see what it leads to, so you would give it a good chance....
