Hi everybody. I think I am stressing out too much about what it takes to get into pharmacy school. I am an excellent student, but worry how many extracurriculars these schools expect me to do, and when I should work in a "health related industry," and for how long. I plan to enter the Boston Marathon, so training takes a long time, and I have no other time for other extracurriulars like clubs and whatnot.

If there is anyone out there, who is in pharmacy school, or knows what it takes, I could really really use this advice about how they did it, and what I need to do. I know everyone is different, but I really need help. Thanks!

I don't think pharmacy schools are that interested in your extracurriculars, especially sports. Athletic ability is not part of being a pharmacist. What counts is being good at the kind of things pharamcists do, namely, work with dangerous chemicals that can kill people if you handle them carelessly or mess up the math in calculating the amount to use.

If you want to be a pharmacist, spend all the time you can studying chemistry and try to do really well. Also, try to do a decent job in math and biology. Also, try to show them that you care about people and you are absolutely honest and clean-living. Pharmacists who have drug habits lose their licenses! The guy who says he is a pharmacy student and has a drug habit is on really thin ice. If they catch him ONE time stealing drugs, he could wind up de-licensed and lose his job permanently. In most states you can NEVER be licensed as a pharmacist if you have had a drug conviction.

You should check out some pharmacy schools to see how they admit people. In some schools (like, I think RI) you are admitted to pharmacy when you apply for admission to the university. But in other schools (like CT) you are admitted to the university and then after two years they choose the best students to go on into pharmacy. So if you are really sure you want to do pharmacy, you should try to get into one the programs that is like RI. The other answer was right about one thing, if you graduate and pass the tough license exam, no one will care whether you were #1 in your class or #25. A license is a license.

Grades and PCATs are very important, but they are not everything. They do look at ECs, recommendations, etc. The weight of ECs depends on the school. The interview is very, very important. They do like to see previous pharmacy experience, be it a job or volunteer.

BE STRONG . MANAGE YOUR TIME .all of our life isn,t schooling ,same that, all of it isn,t amusement .it isn,t necessary for you to be an excellent student {with perfect grades},if you feel like this ,[DOMINATION ON DOCTRINE OF LESSONS IS ENOUGH ] . a pharmacist is a creator I mean should be a creator society need a pharmacist who has creator ship .BUT I think with this fatigue, you are [just] trying to bury your mind,s creative power . at the end ,live my friend and in your life do your favorites [which are right reasonable and clear ] more than other act .fuse in your job but when that you had became it,s lover .be success full my friend . one of your colleague .

All I can tell you is relax. I am in a similar boat. I am in college for forensic pathology right now, and I know it is tough. I really can't give you any advice on how to relax and cope because everyone is different, but don't kill yourself. You'll get there.
