I have had 6 tauruses through the years and have been mostly satisfied. The 3.0 V6 seems to be a reliable engine and I have not had any transmission problems. The 3.8 engine was notorious for head gasket problems at one time, early to mid 90s. We have had some minor electrical problems, but overall they are pretty reliable. Gas mileage is approx. 30 on the hwy. and 20 around town.

A friend bought a used one and is constantly having problems. As much as I believe in buying American, if you are buying a used car stick with Honda, Toyota, or Hyundai. Saturns also are a good used car.

If you are leasing or buying new to use only during the warrenty period your options are a little more open in the fact that you don't have to worry as much about paying for things that go wrong.

I sell cars used to build em' Taurus not the best choice. They can last just like other cars if treated well that is true but they are one of the worst with resale value so make sure you get a good price!

they are as good as any other. make sure you check the transaxle for excessive lateral freeplay also if you do your own maintenance the fuel filter is a little difficult to get to(it is located at the right rear infront of the rear tire along the frame rail. the weakest part of the car, in my experience, is the transmission.

Let's put it this way: you would better spending the same money on a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry.
