If you had the pwer and jurisdiction to impale...*woops* I meant, inprision, parents who do not follow your style or beleifs in parenting, would you do it? Namely, issues like spanking kids, getting the childs ears pierced, not breastfeeding, and not holding baby all day long.

Then, if you would throw these parents in jail based on these offenses, how long would their sentences be? What would you do with their kids? Would you set up an attachment parenting refugee camp for these kids, adopt some youselves, or what?

Hey folks, I'm not asking this about me!! Stop chomping on the bit. I just noticed a lot of the good folks here in the henhouse have strong views on these subjects and I just wanted their feedback. That's all.

Patti C...I don't know either mate. Tell you what though, ask the henhouses resident baby expert, mom2bingo, and she should be able to shoot you numerous links to how babies are traumatized for life if not held a minimum of 23 hours per day, and some data from the Pygmies of new ginuea.

Thank you so very much for that moment of zen, there Pemi. It was greatly appreciated, and I will put those thoughtful words of wisdom on a sticky and refer to them in times of hardship. God bless.

Spanking a child... theres a difference in spanking and beating.. now beating a child yes. but spanking a child who is old enough to understand it .. no

peircing you childs ears is all on the parent and has nothing to do with no one else and no one should bother themselves with the fact of whether or not the parent wanted to do it.

breastfeeding.. some people arent able to.. some children wont latch.. so if we all followed that.. the children who cant latch or there mothers arent able to breastfeed would all starve to death.. wouldnt that be worse???

and holding a baby all day long.. hmm i would hate to come to your house.. it must stink and look so bad that a rat wouldnt even live there.. i mean .. how the hell do you hold your child and do every chore and everything.. do you not take a shower or have sex or drive a vehicle or any thing? the child isnt going to disappear ..

there is a point between good parenting and crazyness.. i mean .. come on.. save the jails/prisons and all that for the people who really deserve it like the rapists and murders etc.....

Every parent will raise their children differently and there is nothing wrong with that but you see a trend of de-tached parenting among very young mothers and women who themselves had mothers who were physicaly distant and refused to breastfeed, neither of these types of mothers were given any good example so they dont know how to break the cycle and just throw a bottle at the baby and turn up the tv when the baby cries for attention during "big brother" or "the amazing race" Im not saying all young moms are this way, there are 40 year old moms who couldnt hold a candle to some 19 year olds but statisticaly this is what happens....you are most likely not going to breastfeed or co sleep if you never saw those actions from your mom, aunts, sisters.I breastfed,i co-slept with my babies for a short time,i spank if i feel my kids deserve it and i would let my daughter get her ears peirced and i myself could not hold my baby all day...my ways are different than others but im still a great mom...my value as a great mom does not need to be reasurred by attacking other peoples ways on a daily basis to make myself feel better...moms like mom2bingu who are knowledgable, informed and care enough to do whats best for her babies and only wants to help those who need some enlightment on feeding their children,if more people like her were in the world we could outweigh all the ignorant people who scoff when they see a woman using her breast for what they are meant for.mom2bingu is one of the smarter people i have heard speak on yahoo answers and i wont say who some of the dumbest are...they know who they are.

no way. i was spanked once as a child and only once. my bf, well lets just say he was a pain in the butt kid and deserved it. i think that a parent has the right to decide whats best for their kids, so long as its not detrimental to the development of the child. and a little wack on the butt isnt going to hurt anyone in the long run. breast feeding is the mothers choice. what do you care if someone does or doesnot breatfeed? what if she cant? what if the baby is allergic to milk? if you want to do something with your child, its your choice. but you have no right to impose your ideas on anyone else. and what would imprisioning the parents do to help the child? like, omg, she gave that infant a bottle, we must put her in jail so that the child can go live with some random family. thats SO much better.

No, but parent training classes, weekly, until the child is 18 even, would be wonderful-- especially for those who never had good parents as examples. Babies don't come with operation manuals. We can buy books, but we have to take the time to read them, and not all babies fit between pages of a how to manual. Group classes where parents can share concerns, mark progress, and find support could improve many chidren's start in life .

Um, no I wouldn't. I do all of those things. I don't breastfeed. If necessary, I will spank. At a certain age I will allow my children to get their ears pierced. And I don't hold my child all day long. I don't think there is anything wrong with different styles and techniques of parenting therefore, I wouldn't imprison people for doings thing differently than me.

Heck yeah, I know exactly what you are saying about mom2bingu. And you know what I get: If she is such a great mom, how in the world can she be on the computer ALL day long?

How is momma2mingbu wrong if someone asks for an opinion or advice and she gives it and can back it up? She gives solicited advice and backs it up with expert resources. She does not claim to be an expert herself as some others do.
That is what is so great about OPINIONS - everyone has them and not everybody MUST agree with them. But some people at least care enough about their own to research what they believe so they are not talking out of their @$$ when discussing it with others.

I would make parents have to be licenced to have children. There would be no fee involved, but I would make the parents go through a class teaching them proper parenting skills. I would not inprison parents who practice poor parenting, but I would give them further training and fine them for the cost of the training. If they continue to practice poor parenting I would sterilize them and take the children away.

holy crap. no way. Every parent has as right to parent their children in the way they see fit. There a fine line between spanking and abuse. And i dont believe that not holding a child, or breast feeding it EVER will consitute as abuse.

Although theyre a few weirdos out there who believe it is.

I sure am glad you do not have that power. How in the world could NOT holding a baby all day be considered wrong?

i myself am a firm believer in child discipline and otherwise i believe in letting parents teach / raise kids WITHOUT outside interference. i myself was brought up in the "old-school" ways and i firmly believe in them and no-body should be alowed to change that
