My daughter is 14 months old, she says mom, dada, and nana for my mother. She does alot of talking but they aren't actual words yet. The other day she was watching Dora the explorer, and boots said say backpack, and she tried to say it..mind you it came out like bad ba..lol
Just wondered from other parent's what their experiences were/are?

Every toddler is different, to compare one child to another is unfair and often makes us worry needlessly. For general guidelines try a website like babycenter.com or parenting.com. Often times little ones will concentrate on one large skill at a time, at this age maybe she is concentrating on walking, running or whatever else and talking isn't all that important to her. TRUST me once she does start talking you'll wish for those quiet days back ;) LOL Olivia talked really early but I know of friends children that didn't start really talking until age 2. She sounds right on track, happy parenting :)

Aww that was so cute how she tried to say backpack. Other than that I have a 3 1/2 year old son who loves dora the explorer and he has watched it since he started walking i believe. I believe that my son actually started talking in words at about 14-16 months I believe. He is very smart for his age and his words are very clear they have been ever since he started talking. Mind you he knew his states in alphabetical order by the time he was 2!! So give her time ... she will start talking!! Dora helps a lot though!! Very interactive!!!

My daughter had a few words starting around 10 months (mama, dada, otto (her stuffed octapus), hooray). By 14 months she was speaking in sentences, and now at just under 2 years, she is pretty much totally understandable.

My first child spoke fluently at a party when she was just one, while her 2 year old cousin said not a word. Today they are 21 and 22 respectively and are just fine. Unless there is a hearing problem, don't worry. The more you speak to them, read to them, and ask them questions, engaging them in communication, the faster their vocabulary builds and the better their grammar skills become.

My daugher was about 13mths old when she started stringing 3 and 4 words together. She was (and is) a mimic. She first said Dada at 9mths old. She is 6 now and wakes up talking!!!!

At 9 months old my daughter said "D". (I would sing the alphabet really slow and she just started saying "D" after I said C)

She now says 'what, dada, mama, juice, shoes, yes, up'. She'll sign the words 'more' and 'no'

She's 15 months old.

Don't worry, she is still well within the curve! If she has older siblings, she may not have a reason to speak. They just know what she wants and get/does it for her. Otherwise, just continue to ask her questions to give her a reason to want to talk. Also, sing to her and encourage her to sing along. As long as her hearing is good she will come around and you'll long for the "quieter" days!

I think my son was at about the same development rate as your daughter, and now he's 27-months and having conversations. (Your pediatrician will ask you about speech at her 18-month appointment.)

My nephew didn't say a word even by 18 months, but by two he was speaking really well, on his own -- no speech therapy or anything.

So I think your daughter is doing just fine!
