im growing them in my backyard and they are duplicating every day. i love tomatoes, but not by the millions, so what can make out of them instead of regular salads. im not a cook at all, i barely know how to prepare rice and cook a piece of meat, so any simple idea would be something new to me.

any good ideas?

diemartel: thats a good idea, but it would work more easily in the states, here in italy there arent that many homeless shelters, not one that i have heard of here in florence, but if i do, i will. thanks

Dice them up and toss into a frying pan with a few of your favourite spices (you're Italian, surely you are familiar with spices!!!)... instant tomatoe sauce. Serve alone on the side with meal, or on meats or rice.

I really like the homeless shelter idea... or perhaps a womens' shelter, or a childrens' shelter?

oh gosh, i wish i was there. chilled tomatoes and thousand island dressing and im in food heaven. i would suggest canning them but if youre not experienced in food preperation it wouldnt be worth the effort. maybe you should just sell them. if you have any local farmers markets they would probably buy them. a few years back i used to live by a small creek and it had hundreds of elderberry bushes, i used to pick them and take them to manager of the produce section at the local supermarket and sell them. or even advertise them for sale in youre local newspaper, tomatoes arent really cheap. so if you have alot they are worth the money to advertise, i just bought tomatoes yesterday and they were 88 cents a pound, if youre talking about the small cherry tomatoes they are $1.99 a pound here. or talk to friends and ask if they know anyone that does home canning, not really canning because its always in jars. but they might do it for you if you split the finished product with them. and if they know how to do canning they probably know how to do pickling. and if you have the little cherry tomatoes they are just fabulous pickled.

You don't have to can tomatoes to can them. I know that sounded funny but I go to the tomato plants(packing plant) and get cheap tomatoes every year.....I get freezer bags, a pot of water, an extra pot, and a knife. I put my tomatoes in the boiling water for 1 minute util skin puckers a little. Take them out and lay them on a towel to cool. When they are cool enough to handle use knife or fingers to pull off the skin. Cut in half and put in extra pot. When all your tomatoes are done ladel into freezer bags, push put all air and freeze. Then all year long you have home-grown tomatoes for chili, soups, and spagetti.

Salsa or spaghetti sauce! Throw all of them in a boiling pot of water, then after 3 minutes take them out and put them in very cold water. Then you can take and use a blender and make them into the consistancy you prefer. There are spice packets you can buy at the grocery store that have all you need. They are called Mrs. Wages she has salsa, pickles and spaghetti mix all you do is add tomatos or cucumbers! EAsy!

buy some steaks at the store. Cook them in a slow cooker with crushed up tomatoes. It's called swiss steak. Very tasty! Get the smaller steaks with no bones. I forget what the name of the steak is though.

You can donate additional tomato to your local homeless shelter rather than cooking anything with them at all.

Soups
Stews
Ratatouille, it's just a frying pan of sauteed garden veggies in a little bit of olive oil and spices.
Chili
Spaghetti

Wash & dry them. Pop those little beauties in the freezer for all winter long.
