Take away their Internet and cell phone privileges for a week.

It's worse than a spanking.

A 15 year old is probably too old for a spanking. I would lean toward another form of punishment such as grounding, loss of privileges, etc. Many people think the Bible says you must beat your child with a rod or stick to discipline them. Discipline comes from the same root word as Disciple. It means to train or teach. While there are times when a swat may be required in a child's upbringing, parents must remember they are not beating the bad out of the child but bumping them back into the correct path.

The Biblical definition of the rod is a small flexible branch from a tree (a wooden stick) ... a number of rods [should be kept] throughout the house, in your car, and in your purse (so that you can] apply loving correction immediately. (Tomczak, 117)

The rod is to be a thick wooden stick like a switch. Of course, the size of the rod should vary with the size of the child. A willow or peach tree branch may be fine for a rebellious two-year-old, but a small hickory rod or dowel rod would be more fitting for a well-muscled teenage boy. (Fugate, 141)

That sickened me...

I know a few parents who believe there is signifigance in actually using a rod. I know one family that gets dowels from a hardware store. However, I take a middle position. We use a paddle. I think the real signifigance is in not using your hand to spank--there are good reasons an instrument should be used.

Mine bend over the back of a chair when being disciplined. Although some--including many pro-spanking Christians--disagree--I still paddle their bare bottom-- even at older ages.

I think you should use your 9 inch rod as is specified in the Bible and make sure the *** is bare, but you should wait till she's 18 for a good spanking.

Think about that. A 15-year old, while immature is well nigh an adult in so many ways (3 years away from being military eligible). Please rise to the occasion: be intelligent and creative enough to spare your teen the humiliation, ridicule, and demoralizing effects of corporal punishment at this age.

A swat on the fanny at a much earlier age MIGHT'VE been appropriate as a means of guidance, but not as an everlasting systematic method of punishment.

Ask the child's school, or a Family Resource Center (community agency) for ways to learn POSITIVE DISCIPLINE. It takes a lot of effort on the adult's part, but eternally worth it.

A rod is made of iron and is used to stripe people 15 is a bit old and they will probably hold more resentment for being hit than the good it will do punish them and make sure you live up to the punishment and they know why they are punished.

i suggest you don't spank a 15 year old.....use an alternative form of punishment.

plus, in the bible when it refers to using the "rod" and to discipline children, it isn't talking about beating them or abusing them.

I don't think spanking is the answer. I grounded my childern and stuck to it, but that also meant that I had to be there to enforce it. Also you can take all electronics out of the room, no phone. And make them earn it back!
I think in the Christian belief meant , you need to punish childern, in a learning manner. At least thats what I take it to be.

In the front yard, with a narrow belt, while holding onto his upper arm. We call it the 'front yard high step'. If he resists, beat the crap out of him, then administer the whipping. A rod is about 3 ft.
