Why is it that when you eat something for breakfast that your body doesn't "think" you should be eating (pizza or steak or hamburgers, etc. ) you get sick as opposed to "normal" breakfast things such as bacon, eggs and cereal?

I think it's YOUR body talking to you. I have no problem eating whatever I want to eat at breakfast, although I usually eat the normal breakfast stuff You obviously don't think it's OK to eat pizza, etc., for breakfast and your body reacts accordingly.

I wonder if it might be cultural...you know, people in the U.S. think cereal or eggs and toast is appropriate for breakfast, but in the far east they often have raw fish and rice for breakfast. From what I understand, most people in Europe would be repulsed by the idea of eggs and bacon for breakfast. Maybe it's just what you're used to, but hey, if you feel like having pizza or a hamburger for breakfast, why not? Better than eating that kind of stuff for dinner when it gets into your system and doesn't get used because you're winding down your day...

Actually I almost NEVER eat "breakfast things" for breakfast. Most are too sugary and make me feel tired all day. I often have whatever was left from supper the night before, but my usual is a bean burritto or black-bean burger with lots of spinach (from a bag of frozen). Keeps me feeling good all morning. The only time I eat cereal is at supper once in a while if I'm not very hungry; then it makes me sort of sleepy, and I go to bed.

In my opinion, we only think that due to the way we were raised. In some cultures, fish is breakfast, another, tomatoes are breakfast... It all has to do with what our parents and grandparents instilled in us.

I, on the other hand, have changed my breakfast routine from what my parents taught me, but because I lack protein and get darn sick of bacon and eggs, so I make chicken, shrimp, crap, even dumplings with high protein filling for my breakfasts. Nothing says lovin like a bowl of shrimp and vegetable for breakfast...ha ha ha !

If you've broken down the foods that sound like "breakfast" and the ones that sound like "dinner" they are basically comprised of the same fats, spices, etc in either type of food. One answer is that you are eating after a long period of time of not having anything in your stomach to buffer those foods, therefore eating on an empty stomach. Overnight is a long time. The other is that your brain is telling you that those foods shouldn't be eating strictly because "it doesn't sound right", therefore psychosomatic. Take your pick. I choose the psychosomatic IF those breakfast items are fatty bacon, fatty eggs, fatty buttery toast, sugary muffins, etc.

That's a good question. I don't think the body thinks, I think we have a mentality for not eating the right stuff for breakfast, that in turns cause our body to get stomach aches.

You associate bacon and eggs with the morning and pizza with lunch and dinner. This could possible confuse your body clock. Kind of like jet lag.

My body seems to relish that left over pizza or steak in the am, usually after I finish a workout, Don't do it often but it seems to go in and disappear without causing a blemish. Most days I go with fruit and a protein shake after a workout.....Yes, I workout every morning...

part of the norms, our being socialized. consider that all of us really have no truly "original" thoughts or actions. what we do, say, think or don't is a composite of parents, family, friends, all affiliations you have come into contact with during your life.

you have trained your brain in this manner for what has been customary for breakfast food. the brain runs the show here.
