NO.

Because even though the idea of owning a wolf is cool... It's also very stupid.

It's a WILD animal....& will always have it's wild instincts and be dangerous. Unless your son's frind has an education in wild animal conservation....he wouldn't have the knowledge to be able to take proper care of the wolf.

Unless friend's son is a wild animal expert and trainer, the answer is no. Full wolves are illegal to own as a pet. Hybrids are dangerous. Look on source listed below, click on the link. Wolves require special attention and are not a consideration to take lightly.

If friend's son likes wolves and hybrids, consider supporting a rescue like this one financially. Other options include adopting a malamute or husky, which are the closer relatives to the wolf but with most aggressive tendancies bred out.

NO!!!
a wolf cub is totally illegal to own and people should not even consider that they would make a good pet,
This is a wild animal and belongs out in the wilderness where it came from.
This kind of foolishness gives wolves a bad name and also helps to deplete the nature amount of wolves we should have in the wild,
There are getting to be fewer and fewer wolves in the wild.
Please get ahold of the DNR and give it to them so they can provide it with the care it needs to go back into the wild where it came from.

While wofl hybrids are not illegal in every state, they can be very dangerous. Even the most well-trained, attentive dog can become a danger to a small child. Because they are very prey driven, the first time a small child runs by the dog quickly, the dog's instincts may snap on and the dog could attack the child, regardless of how much he knows or loves the child. These animals are better left for experienced wolf and wolf hybrid owners and are not a "quick-fix" pet. It takes a considerable amount of time, money, and space to live happily with a wof or wolf hybrid.

Full wolf pups are illegle in most states.... so you must mean a hybrid..
They can be wonderful animals.. I have one Grey wolf and Alaskan husky hybrid. But like all animals you need to spend time with them..
THEY ARE NOT DOGS... and must be trained differently.
Pups love to chew wood and will continue till they mature at 5 years...

Do a lot of research before you jump into anything, also know what the wolf is bred with, and who owns them.... Some combinations can be a BIG mistake...

Not only is it illegal in many places, it is also a recipe for disaster - rabies vaccines can be given to wolves & hybrids, but have not been tested & approved, therefore all wolves & wolf/dog hybrids are assumed to be rabid - and when (not if) they bite someone, legal havoc will reign. Wolves & hybrids often attack children because of their built-in prey drive. Once the natural fear of humans has been removed & they are in close contact with them, when children run & yell in their high-pitched voices it sets off the instinct to attack. Typical fencing or tie-outs will not contain a wolf or hybrid for long.

I suggest he consider getting something with that wild look, but the known stable personality of a domesticated dog. A Norwegian Elkhound, a Siberian Husky or a German Shepherd in the wolf sable color are some better choices. He can view these at www.akc.org & get in touch with members of the breed's club for more information. Good luck.

absolutely not. a wolf is a wild animal and cannot be happy outside a group. two animals do not a group make. two interspecies animals in particular.
the challenge for your friend's son would be to see if the wolf would adopt him. go out into the wild, make contact with a pack and do what needs doing to get them to trust you. wolves have never been known to track and kill a human being in north america. read Farley Mowat

No, I babysat for a couple who had a part wolf mix. Where he was very protective of his family, no one else could get near them. He spent most of his time in the basement, which made him so mean..I think that they ended up finding a wolf refuge for him. If your friend owns a 200 acre , no livestock area, it may work. Wolves need to roam, even half-breeds.

I have a wolf hybrid and they are not easy to deal with. I keep mine inside but he prefers the outside. He is very active and still has the wildness in him. He is 3 yrs old. Believe me, you will not be happy because it is almost impossible to train them. We got him at 8 wks old.

Absolutely not. They are wild animals and most likely endangered, at least in the lower 48. It would grow
into a large, powerful and dangerous predator. Go to
an animal shelter and find a nice puppie.
