Hello,
I'm from the 'other' side so here's my opinion:
You don't have to be an individualist to change something you don't like. All the people intend to have an image which they project to the outer world and no one feels well being something differenent (even not necessaraily worse) other. When I feel my car could use some body panels to juice up the look, why not? Cars in stock condition doesn't entirely represent the person, only the general 'style' (or just the financial state). You are not your car. You are what you IMPROVE on your car. All cars deserve to be better. Most people buy 'good' cars to counterweight what's missing from themselves. Style, quality, endurance, reliability or strength.
Why do we make haircuts? Why do we brush our teeth? Why do we change clothes? To be as perfect as we can. When you don't have big muscles, you don't think 'I can't have big muscles because I wasn't born with big muscles'. I'm sure you would do something to achieve your goal.
And that's what we do. We're doing our best. Buying a new car just becuase we don't like some parts of the old one is like admitting that you have a problem and instead of solving it, you just run away.
In my country we have a saying: 'If the mountain does'nt go to Mohamed, then Mohamed goes to the mountain.' Why would I have to buy a Lexus when I only like the style of their lights ? You don't buy a cow when you wanna drink milk, right? :D
By the way, Lexus-lights look good, so my car deserves it. :D
Sorry for being honest, I hope you won't get it wrong.
Peace.

I guess when you refer to them as "Lexus" that you are indicating the STYLE of lamp housing and not someting actually made by the Lexus car company. The style of lamp housing is commonly referred to as "altezza" in the automotive aftermarket. These lamps are simply a way to upgrade a vehicle or to make it stand out from the pack. They were first intorduced to the world in the mid 1990's on momdified import vehicles such as Honda and Mitsubishi. Since then the lamps have grown in popularity and are being manufactured for many different automobiles. Some designs are better looking than others and as with most things, the better designs are more expensive. Several vehicles are manufactured with these style lamps today, showing the influence that the aftermarket can have on the design community.

I'd rather put non-Lexus lights on a Lexus - never liked those lights.
It's interesting to note that the new Lexus IS has normal lights.
Obviously Lexus customers didn't like them much either.

For the same reason mazda fitted them to the 626 and peugoet made them an optional extra (206) . "Quality" units emit more light than the traditional lamp unit designs. Another favorate was the BMW M3 Mirror they were on everything, a good idea will always be a popular one.

Because they have convinced themselves they can fool some of the people some of the time. They are looking to increase their status, and thus increase their chance of mating. Simple evolutionary behavior.
